NYT (8/2): Novak Blames "Who's Who" Book For Plame Leak
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 02:00 AM by writes2000
Without question, this absolutely has to be the dumbest thing I've ever read.

According to the article, Novak looked up the name of Joe Wilson's wife in the "Who's Who in America" directory which lists his wife as Valerie Plame. Therefore, according to him, the identity of Wilson's wife was no secret.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/02/politics/02leak.html?ei=5090&en=3e09e480ced36690&ex=1280635200&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=print

Unbelievable.

Unbelievably stupid.

1. Does "Who's Who" also state that she was a CIA operative?
I didn't think so. Pretty lame, Bob.

6. His attorney must want to commit himself.
Clearly, Novak has the mental power of a gnat.

2. Is it true?
And if it is, does it have any implication on the investigation?

4. I am sure it is.
I also am sure it is irrelevant.

5. Well it explains why he used Valerie "Plame" and not Valerie Wilson
BUT it completely ignores the biggest fact of all. The covert detail is the fact that she was a CIA operative.

It wasn't a secret that Valerie Plame was married to Joe Wilson. Her neighbors knew that. Her family knew that. Joe Wilson's family knew. Their friends knew.

For Novak to pretend that their marriage was well known secret is the height of idiocy.

showing once again his and the gop's contempt for the public by spinning ludicrous excuses as "rational explanations" for egregious behavior.

Novak is an evil little troll, isn't he?

11. He was told not to print the information.
It does not take a genius to understand what a CIA officer means if he or she tells a journalist not to print information about an individual who is alleged to be associated with the CIA regardless of the nature of the association. A patriot would err on the side of caution if asked not to print information about a CIA employee.

If Novak does not have better sense, it is time for him to resign to spend more time with his family.

15. You tell even a hack reporter that the guy's wife got him the job...
That reporter is going to find the wife's name quite easily through any number of sources.

As a librarian, I'd go to Who's Who myself to get basic biographical info on the guy.

This does not get anyone off the hook.

17. DUH!
Plume's wife's name wasn't a secret but the fact that she was an undercover CIA agent was secret. The felony crime is revealing a CIA agent's name.
