Things 'not good' in Iraq - UK foreign secretary
Jack Straw has said the UK is part of the problem in Iraq:

His batteries must be running down.

1. *sigh*
What were the voters of the Blackburn constituency thinking when they reelected him?

2. They were possibly thinking
"Let's do what we can to keep the Far-Right Thatcherite Scum Tories out of politics for as long as we can"

Jack "Boot" Straw has his problems but he's no Tory.

4. Straw
I would say Straw is one of the more respectable parliamentarians. He's intelligent and unafraid to display that intelligence as and when appropriate. Moreover, he actually spends a lot of time in his constiuency speaking with the electorate about their concerns. I doubt he would have said what he said if the latter were not true.

5. I'm sure he is telling the truth
-- now.

However he has been spouting the most egregious rubbish about the war for years. Do you remember his craven, disgusting performance supporting Powell's lies at the UN? Intelligent he may be, but he keeps it well hidden under a coating of disingenuity most of the time.

I expect they've realised that they have to back-pedal from the 'no link between bombs and Iraq' nonsense. Also, possibly preparing the public for a withdrawal (shift to Afghanistan).

6. I also remember
him standing up in Parliament with Blair and denouncing the French as collaborators and enemies of peace (or language like that) when trying to shift blame onto them once the second resolution was withdrawn. It was disgusting.

7. 's/disgusting/shameful/'
Ugh, didn't mean to sound like an echo, for some reason the d word always leaps to mind when I think of Jack Straw and Iraq.
