Magnetic ribbons disappearing?
Is it just me, or are the "war support" magnetic ribbons coming off of cars? I live near an Air Force Base, and it seemed like it had gotten up to almost 1 in 4 cars. Now it seems to be down to more like 1 in 15, maybe even less....

1. Welcome to DU. I haven't looked to see if there is a change in
those kinds of ribbons her ein Maine. I'll keep an eye out after I get home from Canada.

4. Welcome to DU
I'm not sure myself. I live in the south and still see them. Just not on every single car anymore.

12. Plus it is a little awkward when a recruiter
or DUer approaches them to sign up for Iraq and they have this big "support the Troops" sticker right there.

24. How many "Support the Troops" ribbons would it take to buy body armor
for just one soldier? Take the money spent on those ribbons and see how much COULD have been spent on body armor or putting armor on a Humvee.

Actually like the sound of that. Sounds like a new bumper sticker.

I'm starting to see cloth ribbons worn on shirts.

8. I definitely see much less of them now than previously
(this is in NE Ohio) when for a while they were on almost every car. Some of the ones I see now are very badly faded or chewed up.

Oddly, it seems like there has been a resurgence of Bush/Cheney or W stickers on cars. Not tons of them, but for a time I almost never saw one. Now I usually see at least a couple a day. I don't know if this is due to embattled true believers and personality cultists coming out in support of the man whom they view as a patriotic, strong christian who is getting torn down by all that is immoral and unholy, or simply to the RNC targeting uninformed morons on their mailing list with something like: "Do you support a strong economy? Democracy in Iraq? Peace and Safety for Americans? Then show it proudly with this FREE bumper sticker supporting our president in his efforts!"

9. Yeah, I think all the 'rah rah'
is being sucked out of those people. This war sucks and everyone knows it. What's funny is the ass-clowns with Yukons and Suburbans will be the last to take their's off and they're the main reason troops are over there.

Here in Central Iowa.

Most of the ones I see now are on Super PatriotTM vehicles with multiple ribbons/W-astika stickers.

I was noticing that too.
I think they just aren't being replaced, because a $2.99 cent ribbon is about all the support most bushites are willing to give the troops they sent to fight and maybe die in Iraq.

11. Yes, I'm taking them all.
My crawlspace is well insulated now with fifteen tons of magnet and plastic. My cats are acting crazy and I think the Ribbon Core (as I now call it) has my watch and socket set.

13. now you all don't get mad at me
but I might have... somehow... acquired a few

the second I perhaps acquire one they get marked with
indelible marker with such sayings as
Impeach Bush
Fire Rumsfeld
Rove is a Traitor
Bring them home

sayings such as that. When I happen to
come into contact with a vehicle that
may be extremely offensive I might swap
my ribbon for theirs. And the cycle
might continue

15. Neighbors of mine
made a lovely piece of political art by cutting several ribbons into pieces and making a mosaic of a peace sign and "NO WAR" beneath it. Someone eventually yanked the "NO" from the car, but having "WAR" built of shards of yellow ribbons is an interesting statement in and of itself.

16. Holy crap what a good idea!!!
I wish I was still in college so I could participate in this.. The risk of getting caught would probably mean jail and the end of my clearances.. damn damn damn. Still a good idea.

I live near a base too, and still see tons of the multiple ribbon SUVs. They still dont get why I flip them off whenever I pass them. I do see a lot of faded ones as well.

I hope those idiots see what their paint looks like under that ribbon once they take it off. I hope its been on there so long they have a non-faded ribbon shadow on their paint.

17. Welcome to DU! Here in my red state, there are not quite as many now.
I'm assuming they faded or got lost in the carwash, and now that they aren't quite the fad item they used to be, people aren't replacing them. I'd like to think it's enlightenment ... but I think people are just moving on to the next pointless fad.

Here in NY there weren't many of those to begin with, but now there are hardly any at all.

20. So the truth comes out. Those were "Support the War"
ribbons, not "Support the Troops" ribbons. I, ribbonless, supported them then and support them now. They didn't start this *&(^% war, and they sure are getting the ugly end of the stick.

I haven't noticed (not v. detail-oriented about some things) a change, but now I'll be looking. Hypocrits!

21. I noticed that the other day...
although, a guy at my work, one of those 'vietnam veterans for Bush' (gag) kept his support the troop ribbons on his truck (he has two sons in Iraq), but I noticed he took off ALL his Bush stickers off his truck -- about four of them. Hmmmmmm...

23. I don't think they are disappearing here in my red state of Georgia.
Just about 1 out of every 5 cars have those dumb ribbons. I have my bumpersticker that reads: Support our troops. Bring them home. And yesterday, I saw another car with one, also.
