The US Army Civil Affairs-Psychological Operations Command controls both Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations which are official part of the US Army Special Operations Command. I served a 8.5 month tour of duty in Iraq last year during which I worked extensively with my Civil Affairs counter parts as well as with my supported unit (4th ID & 1st ID, the Iraqi National Guard, and a host of local officials, NGOs, foreign Coalition partners, etc.. I assure you that these guys went out the wire with me 6 days a week and were not "staff pukes" or what ever Limbaugh called them.

We got mortared, shot at, IEDed, RPGed, and just about anything you can think of. Psyops would go on raids which Civil Affairs wouldn't go on so we ended up doing a bit more hands on work then they did but by in large everyone in CA who was lower ranking then a full bird worked out in the field and not at a desk.
