Another subject: How telling. Biden on the Daily Show says to Jon |
|
in response to Jon telling him "you can't just pick out any woman from the audience" Biden says "Why not? I'm a Senator" What an insight to his perception of his position-douchebag remark from a DLC type major douchebag.

You left out the first part where Biden criticized Bush for abusing power. He made those comments BEFORE Jon made his comment about just picking a woman out of the audience. So, as a couple other posters here have reminded you, Biden was being sarcastic and was really making a statement about Bush abusing HIS power. :eyes:

And regardless of whatever he said my op was directed to a particular statement from Biden and the insight to his personality and/or perception of his position. It totally came across as crass and arrogant. Just because he's a Senator he feels he can "have" any women. Fuck him and the DLC/DINO train he rode in on.

the subject of Bush came up and Biden started talking about Bush abusing power. Then he said his wife was in the audience and he looked toward the audience. Jon said 'you can't just pick out any woman from the audience' and Biden said "yes I can, I'm a senator'.
He was JOKING and making a reference to Bush abusing power. Several other posters here have tried to tell you the same thing.
Maybe satire is over your head or something. sheesh

the connection between the conversation about Bush abusing power and Biden's sarcastic comment. And apparently there is no convincing you that your hatred of Biden is clouding your comprehension of his remark.
Nothing I can do about that and certainly no reason for me to apologize. As I said upthread, we don't like the RW to twist what our leaders say so I don't think we should do it ourselves.

It's a matter of interpretation. You heard his remarks differently than I did. I still say he was making a sarcastic remark about power and our president. There are numerous other posters here who agreee with that assessment. You apparently think he was being arrogant. Of course, you have an obvious agenda but you are not even willing to spend a nano second considering that perhaps your personal bias against Biden is clouding your judgment. Instead, you cling to this silly argument and behave arrogantly (just as you are accusing Biden of doing - hmmm) and have the nerve to demand an apology.
Get over yourself.

63. You call me rude when in fact I have politely dealt with fact and have |
|
asked you questions to which you STILL have not responded to. READ my posts and tell me exactly where I am wrong specifically. I see you as being completely wrong with the sequence and context of the remarks from biden. You too seem to have some kind of agenda and perhaps your biases are clouding your ability to deal with the facts.
My op stated an OPINION. It was in context as others here have pointed out. You should exhibit enough class to respond to direct questions and get the facts straight. Read the entirety of this thread and focus on what I've posted keeping in mind my op and the fact that you took exception to it and FALSELY claimed it was out of context.
I do not have any more time at this moment to get the transcript but I promise you I will later and I will post it for your reading pleasure. It will confirm that you are wrong regarding the context and sequence.
I apologize if you consider me rude. However it was you who responded initially to my original post and accused me of something I am not guilty of and I still maintain you are wrong regardxing the facts. Afterall it is an opinion, but the issue of "context" is fact andf in that regard I am quite correct. Go ahead and keep defending biden if you like. I respect any persons ability to have and share an opinion. Perhaps you could consider doing the same.
Ps I find your mischaracterizations rude and offensive.

If Biden were talking about BUSH -- why the hell would he say, I'm a Senator. What's that got to do with Bush? Not a damn thing. Doesn't make any sense.
Biden mentioned that his wife was in the audience, cast his arm widely asif to point her out, while looking out at the audience, then Stewart said, "You can't just pick any woman," and Biden replied, "Why not? I'm a Senator."
Not a DAMN thing about Bush in there at all. Maybe before and after those comments, but that remark was pure Biden on Biden, period.

And I don't happen to care if anyone's mind has been changed about Biden -- that's not my interest at all. I don't care what other people think of Biden unless he gets as far as declaring his candidacy -- but that's surely a ways off. What I care about is you've not only MIScharacterized what went on yourself (which I also dislike intensely), you've actually maligned the exact reaction *I* also had as I was watching the show when it first aired last night and treated someone else rather rudely about the exact same reaction as I had.

54. That jumped at me, too. Kerry said for months he didn't ask McCain, but |
|
for some reason the media kept insisting he did. The Repubs were able to spin this as an attack on Dems, as if there was such a shortage of good Dems that Kerry HAD to ask a Republican to run. Of course, the media is always there to help them push their spin.
IMO, the only reason Kerry would have contemplated McCain was if he felt the nation was torn apart to the degree that civil war was imminent.

Just as Bush's "dictatorship" joke revealed an anti-democratic bent on his part, just as Bush's "joke" mocking Carla Faye Tucker's death revealed a sadistic nature. Etc.
Yeah, he meant it as a joke, no doubt. Also no doubt HE doesn't think of himself as arrogant. But he IS a member of what has been called "the most exclusive Club in the world," and it's damned obvious -- from his "joke" -- that that fact is not lost on him.
It was inappropriate even as a joke.

71. The OP expressed PERFECTLY my own take on it at the time |
|
I thought the very same thing: how fucking arrogant.
So are you saying that my reaction was itself a misrepresentation? Or that my own interpretation is also freeper-like?
Actually, aren't freepers usually quite happy to have their leaders misbehave on the arrogance side of the scale? One thing I think they DO do is chalk up any and all criticism as unreasonable bias and prejudice or partisanship, rather than admitting or acknowledging said criticism has any merit at all. It's a form of ad hominem attack IMO: you (the critic) don't have the capacity to be fair or objective in your criticism, so it must be just your hatred of Bush (or in this case Biden) that makes you say that. I always thought such arguments particularly intellectually dishonest -- like the whole Bush administration which can NEVER admit a mistake or error on anything -- not to mention intellectually lazy.
BTW, Biden's remarks were also sexist, something no one has bothered to notice or point out. I guess you missed that too. He was bascially treating women as objects and "things" that he is entitled to, being a Senator and all, and that he's so special (being a Senator and all), women wouldn't be able to help themselves OR say no to him, and possibly wouldn't even have the right to do so. Ptooey, ptooey.

43. They are all like that. That they have so much more insight |
|
than us plebes. and that we have no idea of the "way things really are"

47. The daily show is a comedy show, it was a joke that was so obvious? |

48. No one is debating the type of show Jon hosts. And no one is debating the |
|
the intent of the "joke" comment. I originally posted that it was very telling of who Biden is. Thank you though for letting me know that The Daily Show is a comedy show. I appreciate your keen insight.

50. Im sorry if I appeard rude, I am not a huge Biden fan obviously |
|
and was not exactly thrilled with the McCain comment, but again, I have no fear that Biden would even get close to the nomination for President in this party, he is definately one of the elite, but he has his uses which we cannot ignore considering the position we are in....
Again, I am sorry if I appeared rude.

51. His "uses" are not in our interest. A DINO is an enemy as much as a repuke |
|
is. A progreesive dem should run against him in the primaries next time he's up but I don't think it'll happen cuz he's running for prez and then once he serves his corporate masters in the 08 primaries and loses (I hope) he'll announce he won't be seeking re-election so that can can go off and spend all that sellout money he's acquired.
Apology accepted. You are a gracious person. Peace! and goodnight

49. It was a joke, though very crass and smacked of elitism. |

The show was great, and I was happy that Biden did at least SOME Bush-bashing. As for the DLC, here is a MAJOR problem: http://rightweb.irc-online.org/ind/marshall/marshall.php

Perhaps your previously developed opinion of Mr. Biden has tainted your judgment on whether he is allowed to make a joke - albeit a mockingly chauvenistic one - on a comedy show.
However, your not-so-subtle displeasure is well-noted.

It's always awkward when untrained, unprofessionals try to entertain.
There's no "insight" here.

58. there are many things I don't like about Biden and what he said in the |
|
interview. McCain as a running mate? Yeah, that sounds wonderful. :sarcasm:
But the comment about selecting a wife from the audience just seemed like an example of the goofy banter that occurs during Jon's interviews. I don't think it has any deep psychoanalytic meaning.
