President Clinton Says Judge Roberts `Very Impressive' |
|
Former President Clinton Says Judge Roberts `Very Impressive' Aug. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Former President Bill Clinton praised Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts as ``highly intelligent,'' while voicing reservations about a memo Roberts wrote in 1984 that called for stripping the high court of some of its power. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=a4USaynAtgJU

1. And people around here wonder why |
|
I've always thought that Clinton was the best Republican president we've had since Lincoln. It is due to shit like this. And sad to say, that former Goldwater Girl of a wife of his is going to be no better, and possibly much worse.

13. Why? Cause Clinton Didn't Call Roberts A Bush Cocksucker? Yeah, |
|
that'd be a great way to influence public perception of the Democratic Party and how they deal with this nomination.

15. Ever hear the expression |
|
"Silence is golden"? I think that Clinton should have heeded that advice, and shut the fuck up. Instead he is cozying up to Bushco, and praising a Republican nominee of dubious merit.
Bill should just fade away. He already caused enough damage while he was in office, he doesn't need to to cause anymore now that he is out.

4. Why are we jumping on Roberts again? |
|

5. I voted for Clinton twice. Never again. |
|
He and the Mrs. have done more to wreck the Democratic Party than the Republicans.

6. What's the problem with that? |
|
Clinton said that Roberts is intelligent (I don't think we dispute that) and that he was a good family man (which I have no reason to disbelieve).
When asked about specifics, Clinton said that he had reservations about a legal opinion Roberts had.
Are we on the "Roberts is a vampire who eats babies" train now?

9. I'm sure there's been someone nominated by * that was worth |
|
giving the benefit of the doubt to...
Hmm....Bolton, Pickering, Brown, Pryor, Rice...
Sheesh, well just because I can't think of anyone he's ever nominated who wasn't a raving partisan asshole doesn't mean Roberts is.
Oh, except for his counseling Jeb on how to give * the WH in 2000 regardless of how the whole Florida thing went.
Oh yeah, and his argument that Roe v Wade should be overturned...oh but he was just shilling...I mean advocating or something... for his 'client', he actually has NO opinion at all on Roe v Wade...
Because just like Trent Lott, we can't know what's really in his heart of hearts just because Lott suggested that electing a segregationist for president in 1948 would have been good for the country.
It's all just unknowable, and soooo unfair to suggest that just because Roberts is a Bush family loyalist doesn't mean he'll *continue* to be a loyalist in the future.

12. Still searching for that common thread with Trent Lott |
|
but you haven't provided one, other than trying to trump up some fallacious "guilt by association" argument.
Roberts' opinion disagreed with busing as an effective means of desegregation. Surprise! The nation agrees, and court-ordered busing is rarer now than a $2 bill.
And maybe you weren't aware of Roberts' 2003 Senate confirmation hearing statement where he said "Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. ...There's nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent."
Jury's out. Don't let your hatred of Bush cloud your argument.

8. Let's consider the source first |

Before condemning the remarks, I want to see them in their entirety. Using the "praised" adjective and putting quotes around "highly intelligent" downplays Clinton voicing reservations.
Plus, with the never ending witch hunt on the Clintons now focused primarily on Hillary, I don't doubt BC's words are carefully stated.

I don't pay too much attention to Clinton. I liked him as president and I still like the guy, but news reports of what he thinks is not really things I pay attention to. He is a former president from a few years back. I pay a lot more attention to what current politicians say.
