Was Elivis Demise into Drugs the first hint of how Corporatists Control? |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 08:27 PM by KoKo01
Do the Corporatist Media take every "fresh talent" and offer contracts, giving them money for their families and friends, take advantage, give the coke and steroids and then...once they have you "Hooked AND Obligated"...they go for the kill? They ruin talent by subjugating it to the interests of the Vast Mainstream Media...and when you DIE of overdoses or dissilution they MAKE MONEY off endless Media Stories about what lead up to your decline and death...meanwhile NEVER telling WHAT PART THEY played in the whole thing?
This was brought to mind watching a PBS special on Elvis early career when he started with Sun Records. A naive Southern Boy..,with talent who Caught the "Big Wave."
How does our "MSMedia" devour the lives of those who bring in the bucks. How many lives have been destroyed? But, maybe it's worth it? In the end, maybe it is. To sacrifice yourself for the millions who love to hear and enjoy your work might be worth more than "principle?"
Not "taking the money" might be more suffocating to talent than taking it and getting "used."

1. no, the big movie companies owned preformers way before Elvis |
|
Lots of sad stories from treatment of women particularily from the 'golden days' of films. Studios dictated a lot of private lives.

2. Go back to Judy Garland. |
|
She was fed uppers and downers by the truckload by MGM, and her talent was exploited long before The King's.
But I'm sure you could go back and find older examples.

7. They started giving her the drugs when she made the Wizard of Oz |
|
which was released in 1939. It's a long history.

9. Didn't it start with her weight problem? If I remember she was always up |
|
and down with her weight and started taking stuff when she would need to make a movie. Also Marilyn Monroe.
But, talking about Elvis...he was Memphis music. Once he went to Hollywood maybe that's when it started. It's still "corporatists" though. Just like the Sports Managers and Owners of today with the steroids. It's always someone coming in and corrupting to get their cut of the huge amount of money celebrities make.

6. Not to rain on your parade but I think by the time |
|
Elvis was seriously into drugs he had enough talent and power that it was his own choice. It's a hazard of achieving your dreams and then surpassing them. What do you do once you have created a life beyond your wildest dreams? Get high.

8. Well...I don't have a parade to rain on....but he didn't get on the drugs |
|
until after he already had his music out. After the army when he came back and Col. Tom..and the Movies got him. At least that's my reading of it. That's my question. When do the "Corporatists" Get Cha? Like all the Sports Stars...they start out young and innocent and then when does "DA MAN" show up and "hook em?" It's maybe when they are making enough money that they can get hooked. When it's profitable for the "pushers" to come in. That's what I guess I'm asking. And thinking how sad it is. It's very sophisticated these days. Maybe they get hooked as they are getting public notice. I think Elivis and those of his time were "raw and simple in their asperations." It took longer before the "pushers" got to them for their "cut." Maybe the "pushers" were in league with the record companies or just were on their "mailing list." And as time went on it got much more sophisticated.

11. Today's McMedia is far, far worse. |
|
During Elvis's lifetime, the corporatists were bad but the media still had honorable elements.

Like you're overhearing people in a bar or something. That's what a lot of DU is like, come to think of it.

15. I've always wondered...was Elvis Republican or Democrat? |
|
I think I remember hearing that he supported Nixon over Kennedy in '60 but I can't be sure.
