Dead marines came from same Ohio-based battalion (Hackett's?)
http://www.cbc.ca/storyview/MSN/world/national/2005/08/03/marines050803.html

People in a small town in Ohio that was home base to the marine battalion that came under attack in Iraq this week are trying to come to grips with their loss.

A roadside bomb killed 14 marines on patrol near the Syrian border on Wednesday. Insurgents killed six other marines on sniper duty northwest of Baghdad on Monday.

The 20 marines were members of the 3rd Battalion, based in Brook Park, a town of 21,000 just southwest of Cleveland.

****

Out of curiosity, would this group of marines be close to the ones Hackett Served with? I don't really know military structure...

Thanks

1. I kind of doubt it. Hackett is in southern Ohio

and this batallion was from the north (around Cleveland).

edit - I can't say for sure, just chiming in!

11. I saw this today on www.icasualties.org though
08/04/05 Cincinnati Enquirer: Bomb kills 3 local Marines
Lance Cpl. Michael Cifuentes, 25, of Oxford, a graduate of St. Xavier High School and Miami University ... Lance Cpl. Timothy Michael Bell Jr., 22, of West Chester ... Lance Cpl. Christopher Jenkins Dyer, 19, of Evendale, a Princeton High School graduate.http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050803/NEWS01/508030396

That could be closer to Hackett though he isn't mentioned in the article. I heard he was going back to Iraq if he doesn't win his race. I hope he makes it back.

5. Freepers have direct links to the Diebold machines.
They can (in real time) watch Democratic totals count backwards).

7. i have worried about Major Hackett falling victim to...
...a friendly fire incident if he returns to Iraq....nah...that would require a level of pathological vindictiveness and pettiness that surely this administration is not capable of...:eyes:

8. Its not necessarily "friendly fire" you have to worry about...
If the wrong people in Iraq want to take you out. There was a contractor, a big time whistleblower...I was reading the article the other day. Anyway, right as the FBI got involved in the investigation, he got whacked by "insurgents" who "claimed responsibility" on a Al Queda website. FBI is investigating his murder, and others have clammed up.

Sounds like relevant info.

Wait, I think I found it..here:

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2005/0506.roston.html

A mysterious insurgent group has claimed credit for Stoffel's killing; another terrorist group celebrated the murder and called him an American spy. His friends, though, aren't convinced that this was just another act of violence by militants in Iraq, and neither, apparently, is the FBI, which is now investigating his death. In the chaos of Iraq, it's likely that no one will ever know for sure why Dale Stoffel was murdered.
