"Air America To Go Off The Air..."
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 10:26 PM by XOKCowboy
A RW'er that I work with came in to work this morning and said "Well I'm sorry but it looks like AAR will be going off the air soon." I laughed and told him that he said that since the first day they came on the air and he said that this time it was true. He'd heard it on "the business report". Wouldn't say WHICH "business report" but knowing him it was either Fox News or someone on RW radio. He said that the "Liberal Millionaires who'd been pumping money into it" were tired of losing money and were going to dump it. I reminded him that it was gaining market share in many if not most markets and he pooh poohed that and said that it had been constantly losing market share from the report he'd heard.

I googled every way I know how and didn't come up with ANYTHING to indicate a problem with Air America. Kinda shows you that these people will believe anything that they're told. It also shows just how scared of the truth getting out and refuting their propoganda.

It'll be good NEXT year to remind him of his dire predictions.

Title edited to keep from offending sensibilities and causing heart attacks.

14. Actual news is ACT cutting back to research only - our GOP friend
can not keep ACT from becoming AAR?

But then we do not expect brains in many of those that support the GOP.

I often repeat RW Memes, as I don't see how one refutes them without repeating them first.

Would we be better off pretending Conservatives in America are mute?

My town sometime this month is supposed to be getting AAR and I'm in a medium size town here in Tennessee. So I highly doubt that. AAR is on sixty-six affiliates around the country. :eyes: Al Franken actually has higher raitings I've heard then O'Reilly.

20. Here in Denver..
the local AM station that started airing AAR last year went from a .5 to a 2.0 share in that time. They'd NEVER been above a .5 share before with any other format.

Meanwhile the local RW Hate Radio station that airs Hannity, Medved, Ingraham has LOST market share.

They're scared of AAR and are lashing out. It's really a good sign.

23. absolutely
In Dallas...the station had 0.0 market share.
First few months, AAR has 0.5.
Interestingly, the RW rag lost exactly that marketshare.
Can't wait to see the next book--that will be the telling one.

27. DailyKOS analysis of this very question: Yes they are GROWING.
<snip>
Fri Jul 8th, 2005 at 12:07:51 PDT

(From the diaries. Interesting stuff -- kos)

I'm sure everyone is wondering if AirAmerica is succeeding or failing. Well, I've done the research and I can tell you the answer. Numbers and graphs inside.

...

First, the bad news. Mainstream (which is largely conservative) talk radio has many, many, many more listeners than AAR. For the selected cities, the overall listenership of Limbaugh/baseline is about 3.8 million this quarter as opposed to about 1 million for AAR. And don't think to yourself that AAR has 1/4 the listenership of Limbaugh, because Limbaugh is on in many more cities where I didn't even collect data because AAR has no presence there. That said, Limbaugh's 3.8 million is down from 4.4 million at the Fall peak whereas AAR's 1 million is up from 800,000 in the Fall. Here's a graph of absolute numbers:

...

All that vertical whitespace is growth that AAR needs just to catch up to Limbaugh in the markets where AAR even exists. You can see there's a lot of work to be done. However, you can also see two other things.

1. AAR is gaining.
2. The Limbaugh baseline is falling.

...
(If you want something you can quote, here's some percentages: The mainstream talk radio market, represented by Limbaugh, is down 1% since the Winter 04 ratings while AirAmerica Radio is up 32%.)

33. Ok, they've lost exactly ONE station...
...South Lake Tahoe, CA! Woo woo. WHICH, doesn't matter, since that area is covered by the Reno station! SO WHATEVER! They got back LA and Chicago (even as half-assed as they are with Ed Shitz, aka FAKE LIBERAL!) so they can't stake that claim. They're in most of the biggest markets: NY, LA, Chicago, San Fran, DC, Miami, Dallas, Philly, Boston, Detroit, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Denver, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Portland, etc., so YEAH, AAR IS GOING SOMEWHERE...RIGHT TO NUMBER ONE!~!!!!!!!!!

Lu Cifer, and here's to your freeper fucktards: :nopity::nopity::nopity:

Hannity, Michelle Malkin? Backup?

Didn't one of the states up north replace Rush Limbaugh with AAR? The rightwingers are getting scared. They had the airwaves all to themselves for so long they really believed what they were told, that there was no audience for a liberal station. It blows their minds to have everything they were told turn out to be a lie!!

38. Well, here's the AAR story that the RW'ers I know have been harping on
They will NOT leave this one alone. When I've looked into it, all the sites that are pushing this story are shills like Michelle Malkin. I was able to find a bit about it on Kos, where they posted AAR's two responses to this matter. But the RW'ers are really hyping this.

Youth funds diverted to liberal radio station
by Michael Horowitz
July 5, 2005
Bronx News

The Bronx News has learned, through informed sources, that the diversion of hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club in Co-op City to the liberal Air America Radio is at the center of the city’s probe of corruption at the local club.

The money, which was reportedly paid to Air America as a loan, was supposed to be paid back with interest, two unidentified informed sources told the News. One source added that Air America officials, led by an official of the Gloria Wise Club, agreed to help the local club by publicizing its activities.

To date, no indictments have been handed down in the New York City Department of Investigation’s ongoing probe of the Gloria Wise Club’s reported transfer of funds to Air America.

<<snip>>

At the center of the investigation, in addition to Charles Rosen, the charismatic leader of the local club for the last 15 years, is Evan Cohen, who resigned, under fire, as chairman of Air America Radio shortly after its start as an alternative to conservative talk radio.
