So, is Bustamente's political career over?
It certainly looks like it, and I can't say I'm disappointed. He ran a lousy campaign. Taking millions of dollars from Indian gaming interests only reinforced views that the current system was corrupt. When he wasn't boring in the debates, he was condescending.

Why couldn't he have simply run as the anti-recall candidate? Why couldn't he have gone around saying: "I'm the ONLY candidate on the second ballot who thinks this recall is a stupid idea. If you support the recall, vote for somebody else. If you oppose the recall, vote for me." Instead, he hedged his bets. Sure, when asked, he was against the recall. But he didn't make this the focus of the campaign, and he refused to defend Davis against the partisan attacks.

3. I think he hurt himself
by distancing himself from Davis early on. He certainly didn't earn any brownie points with me.

I'm just heartsick over the whole recall thing, personally. Any democrat who voted for it needs to have her/his head examined.

6. Who Knows
We'll know on October 8th whether it is over or not. It seems like it, but we will know better on the Wednesday that follows.
