Republicans believe war is the solution...
They look at war as a necessary evil. They like war. They relish the idea of big booms and people being blown to smithereens. So long as it is someone else.

1. and it's poor strategy
These sorts of geopolitical ends are best served with diplomacy, covert action, and so on. Overt violence is best reserved for truly defensive matters.

3. Actually not historically
Before WW2 the Republican party was the anti war party and the isolationist party. They wanted to get involved in no other nations problems. After the fall of france in 1940 it was the dem party that wanted to get more involved.

The Korean war and serious involvement in Vietnam were both started by Democratic presidents. This trend toward militaristic republicanism is a fairly recent trend, dating back to the Reagan years for the most part.

4. Fact is an economy cannot avoid the worst of the business cycle
unless there is government spending. This is classical economics. And the GOP sees government spending on people & education as teaching liberal values and respect for government. So all they are left with is military spending on War to sap the government of its strength and keep the economy going.

If they had to stear money away from their enemies..too bad they could not spend on environment or science education. But that would have taken forsight and compassion & greatness.

So they spend on war. And 19th Century way of managing an economy.

5. necessary-yes, evil-no... they seem to like war.
but only to be fought by minorities and the disenfranchised who have few options for any standard of living and therefore join the military.

6. Please read the threads in the opening post and replies in this thread:
We need to everything we can to prevent war with Iran. All the pieces are in place now and the media are ignoring the Washington Post story on Monday of the leaked National Intelligence Estimate for Iran - which said that the country is at least 10 years away from a nuclear bomb.

Here's the combined thread - be sure to look through the links in the replies too. Israel is poised to make the first attack, and the Bush Administration is fully aware and supports it.

7. I think maybe they just prefer top-down control of all kinds
to actually having to interact with those they don't agree with in order to reach a mutually-acceptable solution.
