I just sent this email to the Al Franken show
"Al just stated (as he has before) that the greatest threat to marriage is divorce. That got me to thinking, is he going far enough back in his logic on this? I think it could be proven statistically that divorce mostly occurs among the population of married people. Divorces are practically (completely?) non-existent among unmarried people. Therefore, it could be said that the greatest threat to marriage is getting married.

This is what happens when Al gets me to thinking..."

Sorry, just felt compulsively obsessed to share

3. And since many divorced people get remarried, ...
divorce is obviously a boon to marriage.

There's be a lot fewer marriages if there were no divorces. And many people would not get married, even for the first time, if they didn't know that, if need be, they could get divorced.

4. How about another constitional amendment for something else
Not against gay marriage. Against something that much too often causes divorce.

"Mr. President, in order to preserve the sanctity of marriage, when will you call for a constitutional amendment banning adultery?"

8. Actually...
I think the biggest threat to marriage today is money, more specifically, the fighting over the loss of $$$. When one spouse works and the other doesn't (due to job loss, disability, etc), it leads to a whole series of social problems - increases in drug/drinking dependency, infidelity, etc.

So, really we could say, Bush's ecomonic plan is the biggest threat to marriage today! :)
