Who would be the "weakest" Democrat we could nominate...? |
|
to run for the Presidency? Would it be a liberal or a moderate? Would it be a Hillary or a Bayh? Would it be a Gore or a Warner? Would it be a Kerry or a Clark? Who would be the "weakest" and why?

Hillary won't pick up any red states and Edwards would be branded as too "fluffy" during a time of war.
Just my two cents, of course.

4. Lieberman, than Hilary |
|
Lieberman because he, well, sucks and the base would desert him.
Hilary because the mass public has been so propagandized against her that it would be difficult to put together a winning majority.
Why the Democratic party allowed the Hilary bashing to go on unchallenged, I'll never know. But we did, and she is ruined as a national candidate.

8. Probably whoever is being touted by the media at the time. |
|
Dems have a real ability to let the media pick our nominee--with predictable results. I hope to hell our party is OVER that in time for the next round of elections.
Here lately it has been Hillary that the media is pushing, but that could change in the next year or two...

The RW media has been pushing Hillary really hard.
Let's find an outsider this time that they don't have 20 years worth of quotes and footage of - Someone actually capable of winning the popularity contest that is the presidential election.

12. Any 'Dem' who supports "staying the course" in Iraq. |
|
In my opinion, Kerry lost as soon as he voted the way he did on IWR. That's why Senators lose - they 'compromise' and collaborate. As such, they don't offer the voter a clear enough choice - it looks like Coke v. Pepsi to Bud Wiser.
Give me a Dem who says "Not one more American death for a Bush Lie!!!"

31. The Democrats are hardly in a commanding position |
|
And although the administration is careening into the gutter of history with historic scandals and failures, it seems there is no means for the Democratic Party to get ahead.
I would like to see the party lead on global warming and getting the hell out of Iraq, two ideas that could get traction, but I don't see it happening.

weakest Democrat in the sense that they couldn't win: Edwards (too boyish, too nice -- not tough enough looking and acting for red state voters.) weakest in the sense that they aren't true Democrats: Lieberman and Miller (because they are Republicans);-)

Bayh always comes off as a guy who got talked into going to a party, but has no real interest in being there. And he doesn't come across as being particularly smart or savvy either.
NOT TO MENTION, he's within the leadership of the DLC -- and we know what that means -- "put your dreams away... for another day....."

27. Just like anyone against her in 2000 was sure to get at 48% because that |
|
many people "hated" her? She got 56% by the way. That is, every one who didn't totally hate her AND 4% of the people who did totally hate her.

30. True. She would probably fare worse than Mondale. |
|
For those too young to recall, Mondale lost to Reagan back in 1984 by an Electoral College tally of 525 to 13.

29. Hillary, Biden, Bayh, Kerry, or any other pro-war candidate. |
|
The issue has become the war and occupation of Iraq. That is, and has been, the Republican's weakest link. Kerry and Edwards gave them a free ride by supporting it themselves.
The DLC formula of Democrats running as Republicans is a flop.

Mainly because she is too damn polarizing. She doesn't have a particularly good style of public speaking either. Not that that should matter after babbling Bunnypants, but it probably will.
We also need to stear clear of nominating someone from the Northeast.

The GOP has been quiet on Hillary for the most part,Santorum is another matter.I do believe they want her to run becuase they think they know how to take her down. All the smears we heard about her and Bill Clinton while she was in the White House is going to be dredged up through proxies and the gloves will come off.Count on it.
