7. Bonzo Blvd has a nice ring to it.
"Ronald Reagan Blvd" makes me sick, though.

Don't these idolaters realize that Reagan himself, the nominal god of libertarianism, wouldn't likely want his name on all of these big government spending projects?

Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 03:24 PM by Shakespeare
Those streets are numbered FOR A REASON. DC is laid out in a very organized grid pattern (lettered streets run east-west, numbered streets run north-south, and the whole grid is divided into quadrants). Once you understand the way the city is laid out, you'll never get lost there--renaming one of the numbered streets is unbelievably idiotic.

26. done - i think it should stay the same, not be named after ANY
president esp. not Reagan. I dont see why so many people think that he was such a great president that he deserves to have so many things named after him. of course the repukes will go crazy if this is turned down and blame it on the "unappreciative liberals" but they would never stand to have ANYTHING named after clinton

31. I keep telling people...dc is under hostile occupation!
I won't be surprised if they just go ahead and do this as part of some bill or other.

The really funny thing is the careful consideration that is always given to how the residents of dc feel about anything like this...sort of like when metro was threatened with funding cuts if they didn't change all the signs for National Airport (to say "Ronald Reagan National Airport"), or when Congress looked at the dc medical marijuana referendum -- first refusing to pay for counting the votes, and thus stalling for some 10 months the publication of the results (69% in favor!), and then at any rate making sure such an initiative to legalize pot is not allowed.

It's downright hilarious. The "capitol of the Free World", the freakin' crown jewel of democracy, and not only are the residents taxed without voting representation in Congress, even local laws are basically controlled by Congress, with no regard for the will of the people. Whatsoever. Ha. Ha. Ha.

39. An Update: Rep Davis (R) VA called the idea ridiculous
<snip>

Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), chairman of the House Government Reform Committee with jurisdiction over Bonilla's legislation, called it "ridiculous" and said he would put it in the "appropriate file," according to a report on WTOP-AM Radio's Internet site distributed by Davis's aides.

Davis noted that Congress renamed Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and dedicated the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on Pennsylvania Avenue NW in 1998. "If Congressman Bonilla wants to name anything else, he has to look at his own district in San Antonio," Davis was quoted as saying.

40. As a DC resident.....
I say in the infamous words of Whitney Houston "hell to the naw!"

They don't need another thing in this city named for Ronald Reagan. He did nothing for us. Nothing.

How about naming something after President Clinton. After all, he connected to DC residents by walking down Georgia Avenue after he was elected in '92. And when he got the new Presidential limousine shortly before leaving office, he changed the licence plates and put on the "no taxation without representation" ones!
