Howard Dean is an awesome...
non-truth teller.

"I have never favored a Social Security retirement age of 70 nor do I favor one of 68." -- Howard Dean in August of 2003

"I would also entertain taking the retirement age up to 68." -- Howard Dean to NBC in June of 2003

"The way to balance the budget is for Congress to cut Social Security, move the retirement age to 70, cut defense, Medicare and veterans pensions, while the states cut almost everything else. It would be tough but we could do it." -- Howard Dean in 1995

He also had a convenient epiphany.

15. Bleacher
I am sorry that your candiate is bashed at times but on Kucinich's pro life record, he opposed abortion at the same time, wasnt a warhawk, nor did he support cutting the mother's services. I am not saying any Dem did but this was a respectable position, that is the position of my grandparents both loyal dems and Catholics.

26. Thanks
Aint it the truth, and on the abortion record well he wasnt denying these women the right to have decent materials. This is a position many devout Catholics who oppose abortion take, well liberal ones.

9. No.
I am sick of seeing Clark labeled as a repub. I am tired of Deans common man facade. Grassroots my a$$. I was a Dean supporter until Clark came along. Now the Deanies are making me wonder why. Nothing personal.

12. FYI, DraftClark was a prolific Dean basher on DU
who was so dishonestly negative that after weeks (months?) he was told to leave by even the Clark supporters.

Dean says he misspoke on Social Security retirement age

Thursday, August 7, 2003

By NEDRA PICKLER

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean said Wednesday that he misspoke when he told the AFL-CIO he never favored raising the retirement age for Social Security benefits to age 70.

Dean acknowledged that he had called for such an increase when the country was faced with a deficit in 1995, but said he no longer thinks it is necessary. He said former President Clinton set an example of balancing the budget without raising the retirement age.

"Clinton proved that if you run a decent economy and have a budget surplus and some jobs, then you don’t need to raise the age to extend the life of Social Security," Dean said in a telephone interview after The Associated Press questioned conflicting statements he has made on the issue.

Logical explanation to me...

23. I don't see where he lied...
He changed his stance after seeing that with a strong, balanced economy it was possible to maintain SS.

Oh, and when I get caught lying I apologize and correct myself.

19. I second that sentiment. This shit is getting OLD.
Once again I have to say this: I LIKE CLARK but WAY too many of his internet supporters are just plain obnoxious.

Dean's people also had their days of punk baiting but right now, here an now, it's the Clark people that need to back the fuck off.

Let me repeat myself: I LIKE CLARK. Anyone who doubts it can go the the Guy James Show archives and listen to my public comments http://www.theguyjamesshow.com/archives.html yesterday...

31. OK here's some interesting and factual stuff
There is NO candidate that heas keot their word 100%. They all waffle and the more we govern by polls that focus on minor statements without the whole picture, the more they will all appear to waffle.

Clark may very well prove to be a good Democrat and I am not opposed to a General (retired) leading America...if he were NOT retired, I might have an issue with it...be that as it MAY he HAS NO record on which we may compare what he will do to what he SAYS he will do and that IS AND SHOULD be an issue.

There is a VERY BIG difference between Dean and Clinton so the analogies are misleading...Dean kept a wealthy state wealthy, Clinton actually improved the economy and education resources of a state that was NOT SO wealthy.

Probably the MOST qualified candidate in the bunch is Graham and it is a shame that he does NOT stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning because he doesn't have the sex appeal of the other candidates. Therefore we are stuck with the candidate who can weather all the vapid appeals to POP CULTURE including our culture of violence into which Clark fits neatly into.

IF this is what it takes to appeal to NASCAR dads...I say...DEATH TO NASCAR DADS....both candidates supporters should be a source of embarrassment for them based on their behavior on DU.

24. Dean haters behave exactly like freepshits attacking Clinton
They just keep stubbornly spamming the same BS around totally oblivious to how ridiculous and how many times refuted and debunked it is. The Believers like to regurgitate and munch the same shit over and over and over and apparently are under some illusion that they are not the only ones that like it. Blather, rinse, repeat...
