1. There is a time and a place for that language.
But not in the places you mentioned.

3. GOP: No sense of mainstream decorum.
Out of touch with "heartland etiquette".

4. Thank God that the shrub has restored
'honesty and integrity' to the WH. Where would we be if Gore or Kerry had won????

:eyes:

Well, for one, 100,000 dead from the war would still be breathing. God, I really, really despise that POS. All of them. They suck eggs. And, eggs really, really suck.

6. Honesty and integrity, and don't forget, DIGNITY!
Real class acts, aren't they all?

Excuse me while I go vomit. I still feel like I fell down the rabbit hole five years ago...sometimes I hear myself saying, "this shit can't REALLY be happening."

But it is. Surreal though it seems sometimes.

9. I know how you feel.
I just bought that Gwen Stefani CD with Hollaback Girls on it and when I am alone in my car, I turn up the part about 'this shit is bananas, B.A.N.A.N.A.S.' and rage against the BFEE.

How are things in CT? I was born and raised there. Lived there until 14 years ago. I miss it. A lot.

12. Things in CT are better since we got rid of that ratbag
Rowland, though his cronies still think that the laws don't apply to them.

Of course, living in Old Saybrook, it's hard not to be content...except for the fact that the New York and Fairfiled County yuppie assholes are moving up this way in droves...Sorry, I hate yuppies second only to my hatred of developers.

But overall, it's not bad. Let me know if you're ever up this way; we'll take you on the Lower Connecticut river Valley tour and have Pilot House hotdogs for lunch.

So what dragged you out of New England to the Semi-Deep South?

14. Well, we left because my husband took a job
with a subsidiary of Ethyl Corp. They were based in Richmond, so we had to move. It was very hard. All of my family was still in CT. and I had just had my parent's first grandchild 10 months prior. But, I wasn't working, so we were sort of desperate.

Thing is, it has actually worked out really well. I love where I live here. It is mostly a neighborhood of NY, NJ or CT transplants with the occasional MA newcomer. I don't know a single person who is 'from' here.

The cost of living is awesome. We got our house 14 years ago for 125K, 2500 sq. ft. That is simply unheard of in CT. We lived in Monroe prior to moving here and we had a condo that we purchased for $200K because it was within commuting distance to Stamford, where we both worked.

Funny thing. The job in Richmond only lasted about 2 years. They decided to move to Atlanta and I really didn't want to go further from my family, so he got another job actually pretty quickly and has been there for 12+ years. He travels a lot, but when he is home, we share an office because I work from home, so I think if he didn't travel, we would have divorced long ago.

I love the shore of CT. We try to get to Mystic, etc. at least once per year when we are visiting family and friends. The next time I am up that way, I will PM you. I would love to hook up.

And, of course, if you are ever headed this way, let me know. There are some wonderful sights to see around here.

15. I have an old friend in Manassas who I need to visit;
will probably do so next summer. Will be sure to advise you if we do that.

So your neighborhood is kind of an "expat colony" of Northeasterners? I'd never have figured on that, except maybe clumps of retirees in Florida. How do you suppose it got that way? Chance, or word of mouth?

22. I think it got this way because of the low cost of housing.
Just about everyone here telecommutes, including me. My husband has to actually travel, but with three kids and no family nearby, that simply wasn't an option for me as well.

I think this is kind of an up and coming area. We cannot keep up with the growth in terms of schools, roads, etc., but the cost of living allows people who would otherwise have to rent to own a house.

Case in point, Philip Morris moved its NYC operation here last year. When interviewed most of the younger people were thrilled because for the same amount or less that they were paying in rent, they could own a home. When we moved here, we were sort of 'directed' so to speak to certain areas where other employees were moving. It has been pretty good for us. And, at this point, it is my children's home, so we don't plan on going anywhere.

My husband turned down a promotion at his company several times when his boss, who is no longer there, really wanted him to move to NJ. Problem is, our house in NJ would be $700,000. Just wasn't worth it to us. Especially since the kids are happy here.

The community we live in has a pool/tennis club which my kids can walk to. It is better than some resorts. It has a snack bar where they can charge their meals, I mean, really awesome. Last summer, when my dad was dying and I was at the hospital every day, I sent the kids to the pool knowing that they could eat and that they would be under adult supervision. The rules state that if you are 10 you can go without an adult, but my eldest was 14, so she could bring the youngest with her.

It saved my bacon big time. Can you imagine three kids in a hospital room every day? It would have made a difficult situation horrendous.

26. Thanks. I'll check it out. Old Saybrook is still kind of
like that as well. That's why we chose it, specifically, to move to.

We still have two auto-parts stores on Main Street. How much more American can you get than that?

21. That's always amazed me
How the Repugs wanted us to believe the adults are in charge again.

I can still remember the night before the inauguration, in 2001, Janet Parshall (rabid right-winger) said on tv "Tomorrow we will breath clean air again and I can't wait."

As if Clinton had fouled up the air and made a big stinch.

I do care, however, about Republican hypocrisy when they go on witch hunts about decency on television except when it's someone from their side in violation.

It's not like he said "fuck" after stubbing his toe. He told a US Senator to "go fuck yourself" on the floor of the Senate.
