OK, it's time to compare notes: Neocon Debating Tactics
(AKA, "Firing Line Has Left The Building")

- "Cut his/her mic"

- Utter expletives and storm off the set (or hang up).

- Totally change the subject to something meaningless to the discussion

- Defend an exposed lie by attacking the exposer for having exposed the lie.

- Feign dubiousness and promise to research it and get back with an answer.

- Claim that your wishful-thinking grade-z "expertise" trumps the opponent's bona fide superiority in the field in question.

Hmmm, I'm sure I'm missing a few items. Help me out please, o panel of wise observers.

4. More...
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 08:57 PM by skids
- Attribute opponents opinions to some sort of "agenda"

- Recite an RNC (agenda) talking point

- Claim popular opinion supports your side

- Recite an RNC talking point (to tell the public what their opinion is)

- Claim to be "the victim of all this"

- Recite an RNC talking point (to blame the real victim)

- Do an about face and claim the other side can never possibly win

- Recite an RNC talking point (to discourage the other side)

(EDIT: Oh, and I forgot: run out the clock with RNC talking points)

8. Or...
chalk it up to the "librul" media, even though Ann Coulter has clearly stated that it no longer exists (if it ever did at all).

15. Great ones, Skid. You reminded of a couple more...
- Accuse the other side of hate speech.

- Suggest matter-of-factly that the other side has been thoroughly discredited/debunked or is on the brink of financial disaster.

6. accuse the other guy first.
for instance, say that al gore will 'say or do anything to get elected' or the he's run a big deficit or he'll fail to protect america.

10. Mostly - they do anything but argue the point. They do not discuss.
Especially when you point out that MBAs who attack democracy & love war are just sublimating testosterone like any criminal and breaking all the rules. For the same reasons criminals do it too.

11. Leaving the set seems to be big - O'Reilly, David Dreier, now Novak
O'Reilly threw a king-sized fit on Terry Gross' Fresh Air show on NPR and then stormed out of the studio.

In Bill Maher's premiere show last season, David Dreier stomped off the set before the show's end, leaving just an empty chair.

Now Novakula throws a prima donna fit of pique and leaves.

14. Accuse them of the thing you are guilty of.
But do it first. That way, when they bring up your transgression you can confuse the issue by saying they are just being petty.
