An early report from the Veterans for Peace National Convention. Dallas
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 10:48 PM by anarchy1999
What a day! This bunch of people are so incredibly dynamic, a very versified bunch from across this nation. I was privileged to meet so many of my personal heros today and then some, I am moved to tears as I write.

I took a few pics and will be sharing them soon.

Stan Goff, David Kline, Cindy Sheehan, Dahr Jamail (if I were 20 years younger I'd be in love and start a fan club), the founders and several members of IVAW, and the list just goes on and on and on (the guys running Arlington West in Santa Barbara). I'm still star struck. Even the recruiter from MM's Fahrenheit 911 is in attendance.

I wish so many of you were here, but it is nice to know you are in spirit!

Now I come to a request. Will all of you please help us to get major media coverage? We need it ASAP! Our Vets For Peace need some DU activism in a major way.

Thank you!
anarchy1999

ask me anything and I'll respond, online until midnight or so.

7. Thanks seabeyond. The Dallas Morning News did show up today.
They had a very young reporter and a photographer there mid-day.

We'll see what they do tomorrow.

What I need DU'ers to do is call our local tv stations and ask them to please try and cover this event. So far we are being ignored. I've been working on this for weeks and I need "ya'lls" help!

The only thing they listen to are phone calls.

14. Tomorrow evening is free event open to the public.
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 12:13 AM by anarchy1999
Dahr J. is speaking along with Cindy and I believe Colleen R along with many others at the FREE PUBLIC EVENT ON FRIDAY NIGHT. It is all day long seminars, but the evening event starts at 7:00-7:30.

Jim Hightower is speaking on Saturday night, once again with several others.

go to www.veteransforpeace.org

on the front page there is a link to each evening event and that is what I've been sharing. Thank the gods above someone listened at KERA and had Hightower on Glenn Mitchell on Wednesday. \

And yes, the Dallas Morning News/Propaganda was there today, I can't wait to see if they report and if they do how it is spun.

(tonight at dinner there were a couple of hundred)

8. Kerry is a rather controversial figure.
IMVHO, judging on the conversations I've had, Kerry is not terribly well respected amongst these vets, once again let me qualify and say judging just by the conversations I had with different individuals.

20. Don't be jealous, be here with us in spirit and make the calls.
If I'm not mistaken as of late tonight, Rep and FSC will be reporting in.

I'm sorry, I had so many great pics and my camera has dissappeared.

I know of just a few Du'ers showing up soon for more coverage on the goings on, I really do wish so many of you all could be here! I've been energized and humbled, everyone needs a dose of this medicine~!

12. I believe they are slowly awakening. These Vets I've been priviledged
to be around are the force we need to support.

The Vets ended Vietnam and they are the key now!!

Most fortunate for IVAW's are the support of the men at VFP who are their mentors and backing them 100%.

WHY DALLAS! It is a damned good question and even I wondered about the sanity of having this event here in Dallas the first week of August.

To myself I thought are you people INSANE?? It's nice though to have them all here and I'm very proud to be here.

Probably the most interesting moment I had today was when I went up to one of the founders of IVAW and a group with him. I thanked him and told him how much I appreciated what they all are doing. He and everyone with him turned around and thanked us for supporting them and for being so "brave" in Dallas. They were looking up to us. DAMN, I'm still working on getting my head around that one.

18. There are quite a few of us "awake" in Dallas and surrounding areas.
"One is a lonely number", we try, and it is an incredibly tough road to hough.

VFP is an much needed infusion for our efforts supporting them.

Once agai, thank you all in advance for helping to get the message out.

Our Vets will end this war just as they did in Vietnam.

17. I don't think you have to have it. I could be wrong, but I don't think so
You can be a non-vet and be an "associate member".

Peace is easy to be found if you only look for it.

FOR PEACE! I need all of you right now. Support them by contacting your media and ask them to cover this event.

It is the 60th anniversay of the bombs dropping in Japan, it is the 30th anniversary of the pullout from VIETNAM and the 20th anniversary of the founding of Vets for PEACE.

Come on DU, ROCK OUT!!

Let us all do what we do best!
