Eerie Photo

U.S. Marine Capt. Christopher Toland, of Austin, Texas, who commands the 3rd Platoon from Lima Company of the 3rd Battalion, 25th Regiment from Ohio, sleeps with a copy of Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness' on his chest during a lull in fighting in Parwana, near Haditha, Iraq, Friday, Aug. 5, 2005. A roadside bomb nearby killed 14 Marines, many from this platoon, and a civilian interpreter, in the deadliest roadside bombing suffered by American forces in the Iraq war. 4. Iraq is not ALL desert.
There are shady spots and trees and grass.

I realize most of what we see are desert scenes, but, in Baghdad, in particular (which is where this photo was taken), there are many trees and shrubs.

5. Grass?
Something about this picture seems funny.

That looks like a cool season grass blue or fescue or rye
in Iraq?
