Fundamentalist Christian Liberals - "Is there anybody out the there?"
The RW "lemming" lock on the mega-churches in suburbia correlates to a wildfire spreading of disinformation, political and personal smear campaigns, and neocon propaganda against "liberals", democratic candidates, and local issue elections.

I was at an outdoor concert last night and shared lawn space with 12 acquaintances - all members of hardcore, four square magachurches - and we got to talking about Iraq and the 2004 election. There was some wavering in their support for Iraq - not Bush, though - but, what was interesting was their unanimous and staunch negative, almost hatred, of John Kerry. There faces twisted, they scoffed, and called him all the things we heard during the election - verbatim: flip-flopper, swift-boat fake, and Vietnam traitor.

I think that is the evilest means of political gain - lies, smearing, hypocrisy, and using the pulpit / church member logs to spread the lies and deceit.

I am proud of the Kerry campaign and proud to have helped here in MT. He, as well as all candidates that oppose these RW thugs, have to find a way to crack the Jesus = RW Ideals lock that spreads the lies. Spreads dishonesty, hypocrisy, and deceit in the name of Jesus.

Do any liberals attend these mega-churches and are they doing their best to counter the RW spin that percolates in the bible study rooms, lobbies, and youth groups of these propaganda breeding grounds?

1. Not I
If my Priest started talking politics at the pulpit I would literally get up and walk out of the church.

2. I don't know how many answers you'll have to that question...
"Is there anybody out there?" Christianity and liberalism are hardly mutually exclusive. But fundamentalism and liberalism certainly are. Fundamentalism means the completely disregard of anything that is not within a certain dogma. Liberalism means an open mind. So I can't see the two existing side by side in one person.

3. There are liberal charismatics and born-agains
But to the extent thats not the same as "fundamentalist," there may in fact be irreconcilable differences that would prevent any "fundamentalist" from being liberal.

4. No, but I've looked at them and heard some of the things.
It's like Ronnie Floyd says: "It's not about what you believe, it's about what the Bible tells you." And, my personal favorite: "The way to keep a church together is through dogmatic unity, which means to listen to your pastor and he will tell you what the Bible says."

And, finally, this: Imagine a Jimmy Swaggert like man standing in front of an image of a flag and George W Bush and saying "Vote with God. Vote for God." FBC of Springdale nearly lost their take expemtion and would have had Huckabee not ruled against our attempt.

5. No...they scare the life out of me!.....
My wife and I are Christian, spiritual, progressive - and believe that in many cases (most cases?), God, the teachings of Jesus, are NOT to be found in the churches. I am very distrustful of blind following - seems that religion these days breeds hatred, distrust, and plain meanness. I can't see how mega anything is good. People should use their brains, think for themselves, find their own way through life. I am certain that God spends most of his time shaking his head and wondering where all of the stupidity and ignorance is coming from when he ponders his work on Earth.
