"A new kind of conservative, the religious right, crawled out of the sewer
and unlike the libertarian-type conservatives of the past, wasn't about live and let live -- they wanted into your life, to have a say over what you did."

A quote from an old Goldwater supporter / conservative activist who called in to a local radio show last night.

1. Agree with that one.
In fact, they don't deserve to be labeled with such an innocuous term as 'conservative'...Rapturist Right, Batshitcrazy Zealots are more fitting labels.

6. I've been saying all along
that they're not conservative, they're reactionary.

9. Same here. And I think the people at the top don't even believe
the religious rhetoric they spew to get their sheeple in line. They say "God" and it's like a hypnotist's trigger word. It allows them to do whatever they want.

back the the late 70's called Thunder on the Right.

Talks about the whole phenomena of the religious right and how at its core the movement is really detrimental to real "conservative" (ie, jeffersonian) ideals.

It's scary to read something 20 years old and realize most of what is being talked about as 'going to happen', or 'happening' has come to pass.

5. I know. But wouldn't you rather be fighting that kind of
conservative, who at least used reason, as opposed to trying to convince zealots why Secretary Fallwell is a really bad idea?

7. Absolutely, I want my sane conservatives back.
At least they knew they were in the broader liberal tradition that is the foundation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These idiots are fascists, but they are backed by the big money, anti any regulation, no tax is a necessary tax capitalists who are giggling all the way to the bank. The barbarians have long left the Trojan horse they came in with and are pillaging our country for profit and power.

Oh, dear...you got me started. :)
