MADISON, Wis. -- A Monona Marine injured in Iraq has died.

Staff Sgt. Chad Jerome Simon, 32, died Thursday afternoon. He suffered a brain injury when he was injured by a roadside bomb in Fallujah last November.

He was moved to hospice care in Fitchburg last month, and had his feeding tube removed two weeks ago.

His wife Regina says she was carrying out the wishes of his living will.

In addition to his wife, Simon is survived by a son, Dylan, parents Jerry Simon and Carol (Harbort) Parham and sister Stacy Simon, also grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three times) and a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
