15. I think you're about the only person at DU that I've seen actually
use the word "president" referencing George Bush. Most of us can't stomach doing that, and even have trouble hearing it.

Wonder how long we'd stay over there if the twins were in that uniform?

caption from one of six pictures that are gone:

"'I know that potentially many thousands of Americans may die in the war with Iraq,' said Jenna, shown here with a group of friends on their last vacation in St. Tropez before they enlist together."

anybody know how to recapture those pictures?

from a different site

BUSH TWINS: WE ARE READY TO TAKE THE HEAT IN IRAQ
First Twin Jenna Bush Today Gave The Heretik Her View of Iraq. “Dude, she says,”Iraq is the place to be this summer.” Second First Twin Barbara Bush added, “The Hamptons are so like done. Iraq is totally hot.”

“Like a hundred thirty degrees hot, Celsius,” says First Twin Jenna Bush. “It’s Fahrenheit, Jenna. A hundred thirty degrees Fahrenheit,” says Second First Twin Barbara Bush.”

“F*ck Fahrenheit, B girl. Daddy says there are some F words we can’t use,” First Twin Jenna Bush says. “ Celsius, F-heit, whatevs. The guys in uniform here can’t help but be hot.”

“ We are ready to take some shots with our brave soldiers in a Hummer,” says Second First Twin Barbara Bush. “Did you say brave soldier and hummer?” asks First Twin Jenna Bush.

“Yeah, we are so ready to take some shots with our brave soldiers,” adds Second Twin Barbara Bush. “ So long as those shots are followed by beer chasers, says First Twin Jenna Bush.

“Did you know most of the other Humvees in Iraq aren’t armored?” Barbara Bush says as she is lifted into the vehicle. “Don’t think that is our problem,” says Jenna Bush. “We are here to do our part, just so long as that Hummer’s air conditioning’s cranking.”

5. I guess you missed the" Ra Ra More War" show on CNN just now.
It was awful. Ex-marine commander who was there directing the pull down of Saddam's statue 2 years ago was being interviewed. That keira news bunny was drooling all over him as he said the tired old "They are dying for democracy" "For bringing a better future to another country, because that is what ameriKa is about" HORSESHIT! Then they had the nerve to roll the photos of those killed after the cheering for war session was over. Including this baby you posted.

you would "very quickly" picture the "poor kid in a Wehrmacht uniform, ca 1939."

Are you drawing a parallel betw. our war in Iraq and Germany's blitzkrieg on Poland?

Two Marines Assigned To Gulfport Unit Killed In Iraq

<snip>

The parents of another Marine say their son was also killed in Wednesday's attack. Lance Corporal David Steven Stewart of Bogalusa, Louisiana was assigned to the same Gulfport Reserve Unit.

Stewart's mother describes the 24-year-old as a fun loving person who could make anybody laugh. His father says, while he's proud of his son, he feels he died in a lost cause.

"I belive then that they were doing the right thing and now I belive that he's probably died for a lost cause because I think that all these boys that are dying now are dying needlessly because we'll never win this war," Joey Stewart said.

10. what about the people in Iraq, he queried.....
The cousin, his wife S. and their two daughters have been houseguests these last three days. They drove up to the house a couple of days ago with several bags of laundry. “There hasn’t been water in our area for three days…” The cousins wife huffed as she dragged along a black plastic bag of dirty clothes. “The water came late last night and disappeared three hours later… what about you?” Our water had not been cut off completely, but it came and went during the day.

Water has been a big problem in many areas all over Baghdad. Houses without electric water pumps don’t always have access to water. Today it was the same situation in most of the areas. They say the water came for a couple of hours and then disappeared again. We’re filling up plastic containers and pots just to be on the safe side. It is not a good idea to be caught without water in the June heat in Iraq.

“I need to bathe the children and wash all these clothes,” S. called to me as the older of the little girls and I hauled out their overnight bag. “And the sheets- you know nothing has been washed since last weeks ajaja…” We call a dust storm an “ajaja” in Iraq. I don’t think there’s a proper translation for that word. Last week, a few large ajajas kept Baghdad in a sort of pale yellow haze. What happens when an ajaja settles on the city is that within a couple of hours, the air becomes heavy and thick with beige powdery sand. Visibility decreases during these dust storms and it often becomes difficult to drive or see out the window.

On such occasions, we rush about the house shutting windows tightly in a largely futile attempt to keep dust out of the house. For people with allergies or asthma- it’s a nightmare. The only thing that alleviates the situation somewhat is air conditioning. The air feels a little less dusty when there’s an air conditioner pumping cool air into the room.

the above from Baghdad burning:
http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/

lots and lots more that's really horrific, but I'm not up to it

this sort of thing is what the fricking corpwhorate media should be reporting, along with their "good news" stories

They may have enlisted because they wanted to serve their country but not all enlisted specifically to serve in Iraq.

So as not to include our engagement in WWII?

Look, a lot of these young soldiers don't understand the politics of Grenada, Panama, etc. They join up for a variety of reasons. Perhaps some enlisted because we were attacked on 9-11. The point is that just because they enlisted doesn't mean that they wanted to be sent to any old shithole to fight.

Don't blame these young, sometimes naive young men and women for getting into this mess- place the blame where the blame belongs- squarely on Bush for pushing us into Iraq. These young GIs have enough to contend with in Iraq without needing your scorn.

19. We're Fightin' 'em Over There, So We Don't Have to Fight 'em Over Here
Don't you get it?

We're fighting 'em on the streets of Bagdhad, so we don't have to fight 'em on the streets of New York City.

We're fighting 'em on the streets of Falluga (sp), so we don't have to fight 'em on the Streets of San Francisco.

See, America knows that Osama and Saddam have 12 Carrier Battle Groups and a Marine Expeditionary Force of 500,000 ready to storm the beaches of Coney Island. If we don't fight them over there, we'll all be speaking Farsi.

<sarcasm off>
