How many U.S. soldiers have to die before Americans say enough?
As small towns continue to turn out for soldier after soldiers' funerals, when will they say enough.

We see the approval rating plummeting for Bush on Iraq. When will they rise up and demand a pull-out? How come there aren't more demonstrations if there is so much discontent?

4. Enough to re-instate the draft
Most people feel safe in their own little world. Someone else is volunteering to be killed. It doesn't affect most Americans personally.

9. Any clue as to what that number is?
I hear recruitment is at all-time lows. How long can that last?

11. No idea, but I don't think it will be long in coming
I get so down thinking about the consequences we face as a result of Bush's obsession with war.

17. Yup.
I think conscription will be the only way to turn this fucking mess around.

When it's their kid being called up, reality takes on a whole new perspective.

Sad.

5. People are hanging on by their fingernails economically

Many people including a lot of career people seem prosperous. But when they look at their futures, there is a great deal of uncertainty. They are unwilling to rock the boat. In casual conversation, it is understood almost universally now that the war sucks and is a terrible drain and needless sacrifice (even among traditionally conservative demographics).

The middle class has been drained since 1972. The standard of living is going down not up. Demand for change requires increasing expectations while the American public has been steadily fed excuses for its declining standards for over 30 years.

8. Polling told the bush people the number 10,000
is what the American people would accept. That was on the news long ago before we actually went in - found it hard to believe.

10. Too many,
because fuckheads like those on another site think that 1800 of ours to 150,000 of theirs is a good thing.

People make me ill.

12. If memory serves, we'll have to hit 40,000 or so and there will have to
be a military draft. There will have to be massive street demonstrations, skull-crunching by Cops Amok and several prominent members of Congre$$ will actually have to spend some time opposing the war before any sort of action takes place.

Perhaps most importantly, we will all need a credible and trusted TV journalist to come into our living rooms one fine evening and tell us that this war is unwinnable. I don't see this part happening at all.

15. Wrong question, how many billions of dollar lost is enough?
Bush has already shown that he will murder as many people as he can,
and he's a few hundred million left by that standard. The only thing
that will eventually stop the criminal, is he'll run out of monopoly
money.
