Michigan abortion rate drops under pro-choice Democratic governor

Here's one for those Repubs in your life who call themselves "pro-life." I'd post this in LBN, but it's too old.

The 25,512 abortions in Michigan in 2004 were the lowest total since 1999. They represent a drop of more than 3,000, or 11 percent, from the 2003 total of 28,584.

"I think it is good news," said Kathy Humphrey, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Centers of West Michigan.

Humphrey views the decline as the likely result of programs her agency supports aimed at preventing unwanted pregnancies. Those include comprehensive sex education and the distribution of contraceptives such as condoms and birth control pills.

"People are increasingly understanding that unintended pregnancy is a serious health issue and that it is related to abortion," Humphrey said.

1. Sweet, but now what am I supposed to say
to anti-choicers instead of "Michigan's abortion rates have gone up every year since Bush took office, even though they were going down every year under Clinton."

3. I thought they stopped keeping track of national abortion rates
when B*sh took office.
