How big of a step from Santa to JC?
Really?

Am I that alone in this thought?

2. Robert W. Service wrote 'The Sceptic'...
THE SCEPTIC

By Robert W. Service

My Father Chistmas passed away
When I was barely seven,
At twenty-one, alack-a-day,
I lost my hope of heaven.

Yet not in either lies the curse:
The hell of it’s because
I don’t know which loss hurt the worse-
My God or Santa Claus.

Sort of says it all, doesn't it?

5. No
Both real people with complicated, ageless myths which reveal our cultural ideals. Both myths are ever-changing to fit societal needs. Notice the new Santa being slimmer and fitter?

Santa is easier to abandon. Like the Hindu analogy: gods are like ladders--the help you reach a destination, then are no longer needed.

7. Yeah, I guess.
Some people over-rate the lack of evidence of Jesus, but Nick was rather more visible to historians.

8. a step from crass commercialism
to celebrating the religious meaning of Christmas. It's an impossible step. Money is the God of the United States.
