Micheal Schiavo wins Guardian of Year Award.....
take this cons:

State guardians laud Schiavo for fulfilling Terri's wish to die

DORAL -- He's been rebuked by the Vatican, castigated by Congress and slandered on the Internet, but Michael Schiavo was welcomed as a hero Friday by a state organization whose members make end-of-life decisions for people unable to make them for themselves.

The Florida State Guardianship Association bestowed its Guardian of the Year Award on Schiavo for carrying out his wife's wishes not to be kept alive artificially despite a drumbeat of withering criticism.

"Yikes! That took a lot of courage," said Bill Allen, director of the bioethics program at the University of Florida. "It would have been easier for them to whisper, 'Atta boy!' privately and not take such a public stand."

"Oh, my God, that's offensive," said Brother Paul O'Donnell, a Franciscan friar who serves as the Schindler family spokesman. "Michael Schiavo . . . basically let her rot."

State Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, called the recognition "ironic."

"There were a lot of issues that raised some questions about his credibility to act in her best interest," Baxley said.

1. Interesting.
I was at my lawyer's yesterday because we were updating our will and here in conservative VA, my very liberal lawyer said she has never had anyone sit across the table from her and say that they wanted to be kept alive like Terry Schiavo was.

2. I have
Here in the same conservative Commonwealth, I've had clients tell me that they wanted everything possible done, or, in the words of one really memorable gentleman, "I want them to shove tubes into every hole they can find in my body and stuff everything they have to into them to keep me alive."

political expediency, even if it was only in a minor way.
This award was given by people who have no real ax to grind, and are in a position to see situations like this on a daily basis.
Congrats to Michael Schiavo, and I hope he can take some sense of justice from this.

7. "Michael Schiavo . . . basically let her rot."
Umm... I thought it was the parents that kept her alive so long and "let her rot". Sheez, how backwards is this!? :puke:
