4. Having seen both...

I have to say that THE ISLAND wasn't as bad as I heard it was, and WONKA wasn't as good as I heard it was.

THE ISLAND is fast, fun and dumb. Ewan McG and Scarlette J give good performances, are likable characters and have really strong chemistry. The story is as predictable as you think it's going to be -- but you genuinely do have fun getting there.

WONKA is all about the set design and Johnny Depp's weird performance. The kid is good, too. It gets a little plodding in the middle -- kind of like a one-trick pony, once you get it there's not much else to it.

My $.02 -- I'd see THE ISLAND, it's a more adult action movie. Yeah, you've seen the car chases before, but it's still a rush. And the theatre will be less crowded.

16. I've also seen both
And I agree with your assessment. Both are good, fun movies, but I have to say I enjoyed The Island just a tad more.

Both are good eye candy with some strong performances.

6. Depends on your mood
Willy Wonka is definitely lighter and fun in a childish way. The Island is a more serious adult type film.
Maybe I am the only one that feels this way, but I am still a little bumbed out from watching the Island last week. I don't want to give anything away, but I found some of the parts sad.

7. Definitely Wonka
Depp's performance is brilliant.

If you want to see THE ISLAND, you might as well see the original film that they ganked the entire story from:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078062/
parts: the clonus horror (1979)

I warn you, it's not very good - watch the MST3K version if you can. :p

10. Wonka was pretty remarkable.
Depp is wonderful in the film, as are all of the actors. Do not expect anything like the earlier film version. According to my 12-year-old son who read the book and has seen both movies, the 2nd is closer to the book if that helps. Some of the minor touches are wonderfully insane. We are going again.

27. That was my original reaction, also.
Probably too many Disney "nature" movies when I was a kid. I went as part of a deal. I and my son would see that with my wife, and she would see Wonka with us. The movie is remarkable. It is worth it for the photography alone. Their mating habits are fascinating. And you want an argument against Intelligent Design? I mean, only if the designer were Rube Goldberg.

I'm not gonna pay ten bucks to see fat birds waddle. Jeeze. When I go to a movie, I wanna see CGI aliens or buildings blowing up. Not birds.
