23. Larry Lynch (R) was first elected sheriff in 2000, reelected 2004
Until you hear about protestors getting clubbed down or bit, you can assume he's just a typical politician, not particularly jackbooted.

I was rather shocked to find rural Texas law enforcement officers having a quaff at the local, in uniform, when I lived there. Those beer bellies didn't come from donuts.

60. thought I'd answer my own post, info about him is posted on the
iconoclast blog;
http://www.iconoclast-texas.com/News/2005/31-40/31news02.htm
Hirosima survivor Dr. Satoru Konishi spoke at the Crawford Peace House this morning, along with Paul Ritthaler, a retired United States marine captured in World War II by the Japanese and interred at a prison camp about 75 miles from Hiroshima. Ritthaler was there when the bomb was dropped near the end of World War II.

About a dozen people were on hand to hear the talks.

Konishi said he wants the government of Japan to give money to the Japanese victims of the bombing because for a long time the Japanese government did not acknowledge that the radiation had an effect on the people of the areas of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. He expressed no ill will toward the people of the United States. He said he wants the ban of all nuclear weapons.

The Veterans Administration admitted last year that the radiation was the cause of illnesses among those interred there, said Betty Ritthaler, the wife of Paul.

Ritthaler said in a written statement, "Our government is the worst country in the world at getting into wars. Our foreign policy stinks and we need to quit getting into wars."

Betty, said, "Let's don't never do that again to the human race."

It appears that Cindy Sheehan's entourage has just arrived in Crawford (11:35 a.m.). More later.

12. Subjective ....
Edited on Sat Aug-06-05 03:53 PM by Trajan
Funny how things are usually NOT what they look like ...

I see many people milling about, all patriots, all good americans, and all are smiling and enjoying their participation in peacable assembly and free expression ...

I see no riot police, no attack dogs, no flak jackets or mace weapons, no street sweeper shotguns or Uzi's ....

Now ask me: does THIS police force seem like 'pricks' ? ...

Let me be the first and hopefully not the last to PRAISE Crawford's finest : THANK YOU Crawford Police Department for acting in a professional manner and NOT interfering with the constitutionally protected exercise of free speech by these wonderful people ...

Thank YOU Cindy, thank YOU Sheriff, and thank YOU Protestors ! ...

Oh .. and THANK YOU TexasLady ! ...

building a good relationship with them all.

That was Johnny's main idea when he purchased the House. (We had to keep it secret for weeks.) I'm very proud to know all the people involved with the Dallas Peace Center.

The Crawford Peace House is a media center, a place of refuge and alternative ideas to war. Peace reigns supreme.

"Well I won’t back down, no I won’t back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down

Gonna stand my ground, won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won’t back down

Hey baby, there ain’t no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won’t back down.

Well I know what’s right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around
But I’ll stand my ground and I won’t back down

Hey baby there ain’t no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I won’t back down
No, I won’t back down"

36. The pic of your son is in that ditch you had to walk in, isn't it?
If so, you are one brave group! All those people wearing shorts, too... You wouldn't catch me walking in tall grass in Texas without long, heavy pants and boots, particularly in a drainage ditch due to snakes, fire ants, and the like. Of course, with those long pants on I probably would've passed out from the heat! Was the ditch still muddy in places from the recent rains? I cannot BELIEVE they made you walk in a drainage ditch. That was done deliberately to end the march prematurely. Had to be.

Ya'll are the best. Truly.

Great pics!

and got out onto the street. what was strange also, is that there were tons of cars going past us when we got there, then as most were leaving, there wasnt a car in sight. lots and lots of soldiers were driving past us as well. perhaps several locals in the area were curious too. We were up against a fence of some really nice fella who drove his truck up to say hello, and introduced himself as Bush's neighbor, but that was all I heard. He had a couple of huge pretty dogs behind the fence, but were harmless.

72. Im just so very happy to have been there!
If my husband hadnt kept the 2 younger ones, I would have been a little less inclined to go. But my older two, and their friends were very happy they could experience this. They may not be as politically inclined as their mama, but hey, I tried to lead by example, even if I started a little late!

74. So they send HADLEY out to talk to this woman?
HADLEY was RESPONSIBLE for those 16 WORDS in the State of the Union Address that were used as justification to LIE to Congress and the American people and get us INTO THE WAR..

THIS is a SLAP IN THE FACE to Cindy, anyone realise that?

Hadley was supposed to fall on his sword for getting those words in the SOTU address but Tenenent took the fall for Bush..

HADLEY IS the guy that killed her son, he's a Main accomplice, him and BOLTON..

This is like sending out Attila the Hun's associate executioner to comfort the beheaded.

Someone is NOT paying attention here - SHE had not been answered, she's been further INSULTED - TELL HER THAT. Anyone in contact with her by Cell Phone, etc - TELL HER to make a statement that the man that PUT those 16 words in the SOTU Address is NOT to be TRUSTED.

It was an INSULT.

85. Yes, it certainly was an insult
And they insulted the wrong person, too. They underestimate people and their awareness of who has done what in this criminal enterprise of their's. Cindy needs to emphasize this in her response to what you rightly referred to as "a slap in the face." She needs the media to know what's been Junior's reply to her request for a meeting - a joke at her expense.

Junior's 'misunderestimated' the wrong person. Again.

All in all the day went well according to everyone I spoke with this evening. Cindy is still in Crawford but rest assured she is not alone and for as long as she stays she won't be alone.

There lots of us that are going to stand beside her for as long as it takes. That is one of the messages I got this evening from a Vet that was on the impeach bush bus. Please support her for as long as it takes.

Crawford is a special little town.

Support the Peace House and Johnny.

It made ABC NBC and CBS local stations here in Waco, Temple Killeen area. and I was shocked and awed that they actually reported with a minimal amount of Bush-loving garbage like they usually do. It was pretty fair.

79. OH yeah
and Anne Wright, who was so wonderful, introducing me to so many people...big kudos to her...please someone who knows of her tell us more'?
One of the unsung heroes of the opposition to the Iraqi War is Ann Wright. Rather than support the war, she resigned her position with the State Dept. on March 19, 2003. Ms. Wright, a career diplomat for over 16 years, who had also served in the military, believes the Downing Street Memos have plenty of ammunition in them to support impeachment proceeding against President George W. Bush and criminal charges against others in his administration.

ATTN. CRAWFORD, TX AREA FREEPERS: ANTI-BUSH PROTEST SAT. 8/6/05 11 A.M. CDT
Friday, August 5, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 08/05/2005 6:18:28 AM PDT by kristinn

A collection of leftist groups will be holding a demonstration against President Bush and Operation Iraqi Freedom this Saturday at 11 a.m. outside the President's Crawford ranch.

Led by Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, the groups will be demanding answers from the President to questions such as why his daughters aren't serving in Iraq. Never mind that they are telling everyone else to not join the service.

In addition to Ms. Sheehan's group, Gold Star Families for Peace, others involved are Veterans for Peace, Code Pink, Military Families Speak Out and Crawford Peace House.

The groups are promising to stay until they get answers or are arrested.

In addition to wanting answers from President Bush, the groups are demanding that America capitulate to Al Qaeda by abandoning Iraq immediately.

105. LOL. Very effective.
And wrong. None of the groups are telling people not to join *'s war. On the contrary, I think we are providing recruitment materials to * supporters often, as well as letting recruiters know where they can find the chickenhawks congregating.

As for capitulating to Al Qaeda -- same old distortion. We wanted * to go after OBL all along but as our fearful leader has said: "I don't think about him."

Neocons are synonymous with lies and distortion.
