Concert to Support the Troops, expose Bushco.'s shortcomings
With all the Live - 8, Live Aide, Farm Aide how about a huge concert(s) to support the troops both on the battlefield and when they get home. This would work well for the left for several reasons:

1. All proceeds go to buying our troops the armor and supplies they need on the battlefield as well as helping them when they come home (some thing the gov couldn't give 2 shits about)- paying bills, shrink fees, Rx and Med. bills, unemployment, hell even marriage counseling, etc. This will show the shortcomings of the Administration on a national level especially if we ask for donations from the average American to support the troops like our president should have. It will reveal the hypocrisy to those who are not fully aware of the GOP's bullshit.

2. A concert aimed at "supporting the troops" would have to be attended by country artists as well, lest they lose credibility- which in turn would attract red staters(Concerts in the south like this too?). If we state repeatedly the purpose of the concert is to correct where Bushco. has been absent in thier duty it might sink into the heads of a few bush voters and change thier mind which could have a dominoe effect. Especially if some of thier favorite acts show up to give it creedence.

3. It would help out a lot of young men and women who were lucky enough to make it home and now face an uphill battle getting thier lives back on track.

4. The MSM as well as MTV would be forced to cover it if it got big enough, which would force the MSM to discuss Bushco.'s fuckups supporting the troops. Especially if every artist interviewed repeated those talking points.

5. A good show for a good cause is always a good time.

This a feasible idea? Any suggestions criticiscms or ways to get it off the ground and come to fruition are welcome. Any thoughts or music/promotion connections out there?

1. Sounds brilliant and it might
come to that..think a 21st Century Woodstock without the mud and drugs.

The Live 8 went off amazingly well.

2. I think that's a great idea...
There are several rock musicians I can think of who might be interested in doing that-especially if the right slant were placed on it...Michael Stipes, nine Inch Nails, others will come to mind.Maybe we could write their publicists first.

5. The Times They Are A Changing
It feels like momentum is really starting to move against the War and Bush. Is this what if felt like back in the early 70's?

6. GREAT IDEA
was thinking today as I was listening to the radio how come we are not hearing more protest songs.

We hear 1 or 2 lines in a few songs but more then a few singer/song writers have been scared off from saying what they really feel. Some thing like this could put these issues center stage

You just don't hear them. Malloy's show plays great songs all the time. The songs are out there if you look enough.

7. Contact Randi Rhodes! She's friends with Willy Nelson
and I bet she or Willie or people they know could help get this off the ground. Go to http://www.therandirhodesshow.com/ and email her. I bet she'll help you. :hi:

28. The only thing I know about Randi are things
I've heard her say on her show. She has been in the radio business for many, many years. She was in Florida before she moved to NY to work for AAR. Her radio show did VERY well in Florida even though she was in freeperville. She was in the Military, she use to drive a semi- truck for a living, she was married (now divorced) and has a daughter. Her dear sister died from Cancer and she has custody of her sister's daughter. She's well known in the radio world and Liberals LOVE her. :) Randi ROCKS!

Yesterday she went to the "Protect The Vote" march in Atlanta because Willie Nelson's wife, Annie, INVITED her to go and she couldn't say no to her friends, the Nelson's. ;)

Here's a link to her producers. Maybe you can email them? Your idea is a GREAT one!

http://www.therandirhodesshow.com/live/team

Randi is PROACTIVE! She gets things done and I think she may just take this on. Contact her or her producers...whichever you feel most comfortable with. Maybe, you could call her show on Monday and pitch this idea? ;) You can stream it on your computer from AAR web site. :hi:

18. She can probably get Joan Jett too
I think she's in contacts with Joan Jett. I remember back when Jett's new album was out Rhandi got a copy from Jett and she was talking about how she (Jett) had Rhandi's number and also invited her backstage at a show and everything. Plus miss Jett has done tours for the troops before.

10. I wouldn't ban anyone who will pay to support the troops.....
not even Bush.... but well, he has the opportunity every day and declines, rather, cuts the pay for the troops.

This is more than a good idea, it is what the troops need.

I hope maybe MoveOn will help with this too.

They helped with GetOutTheVote Tour, right? Let's crank it up about ten notches.

9. This is a FANTASTIC idea!
The #1 message would be "support our troops."

However, it would have to highlight the problems the troops are having.

25. Yes
Have speakers speak about the problems the troops are having (politicians and whomever else) and then other wise have great music. Have booths set up where you can give donations and buy things and some money will go strictly towards the troops and then of course you have to pay the artist's.

Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 04:58 PM by FreedomAngel82
Bush next year is cutting VA benefits. I also think there should be a good mixture there. Not just country artist's. All types of artist's. Show in the community who is really supporting the troops. Have pop, rock, country and maybe even Christian acts (I like Christian music and they have music that can be played at secular events). I think just anybody who is interested should be able to show up in the music industry no matter what their genere. Like you said: it can be donations for the troops and also a good time. Not everybody can and will show up because they make plans for things in far advanced, so you'd have to prepare this and then try to do it the next year so you can get the artist at the beginning of the year to put on their schedule. If you are to do this how are you going to pull it off? Do you have the contacts in the industry? How will you afford to rent a stadium? Remember it has to be big enough to hold all types of people because if a concert like this happened and many popular artist's were there people will show up to see their favorite artist's and to show their patriotisim.

27. I also wanted to say
that if this does happen a good time to have it will be next summer. Many people are heading back to school now and plus you have to get in touch with the artist's I'm sure way in advanced. It would be cool to plan it the rest of the year and stuff. I think it would be fun!
