Okay everyone, here are the pics I've been promising from Vets for Peace.
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 05:08 PM by anarchy1999
Here we go.

The arrival of the survivor from Japan, Professor Satoru Konishi on Thursday. Umbrellas are courtesy of Solange Mariel and Umbrellas for Peace

He was only 16 years old when the bomb was dropped in Hiroshima.

Peace cranes from Jo Wharton www.cranesflyforpeace.com with pictures from Alan Pogue in the background.

The Cranes Fly for Peace Ladies

Another pic of Alan with some of his amazing photos in the background.

Stan Goff and Dahr Jamail getting to meet one another, it was a special moment.

The founding members of IVAW. (sorry it is blurred)

Our "movie star" from F911, Abdul Henderson, the recruiter that went with Michael Moore.

all of the above were from Thursday.

Last night.

Founders of IVAW and Camilo Mejia in the middle. Alex is on the left and Jimmy is on the right. (Jimmy has a book coming out called Cowboys From Hell (it was the name of his unit), unfortunately for us here in the states he had to go to France to find a publisher)

Kathie Kelly, Stan Goff and Lane (I'm sorry I don't remember his last name, but he is one of the guys that maintains Arlington West every Sunday in Santa Barbara, CA)

A reporter from the Socialist Worker all the way from Chicago, Eric Ruder, www.socialistworker.org (Most recent piece, "Making an example of a GI Resister, the court martial of Kevin Benderman).

Michael McPhearson, Executive Director in the middle wrapping it all up this morning.

and last but not least the Impeach Bush bus headed home to California, via Taos and other points in between.

And another:

Well okay, that is enough for now. I'll see if I can come up with a few more.

My camera spent the day in a car in Crawford so no pics from me on that event but it is ongoing and more to come.

Once again, thank all of you for all your support and I can find no way to express to you all how much these people appreciate our support of them. Together just maybe we can make something good happen.

5. Immediate advise for you - Put up pic of Bush flipping off Karen Hughes
before a speech...PRONTO.

If you don't, Colleen Rowley will get buried by the mediawhores for flipping off Bush.

My dialup downloaded the first few, but then protested. If you could put them on a website somewhere it would be easier for me. Thanks for posting all of them. It looks like it was quite a meeting. Good job.

23. I am a member of VFP
but my work schedule prevented me from attending the conference. :grr:

However, I would like to relate something which happened yesterday; keep in mind this took place in Columbia, SC (my home).

Normally when I wear my VFP t-shirt in public people stare at me, some will say mean things, etc. When I am confronted about it, I peacefully inform the belligerent that I helped to defend their right to freedom of speech, that they are entitled to their opinions and I hope they enjoy expressing them as I do mine. (Wage Peace!)

Now for yesterday, I was actually complimented by someone! They said, "I like that shirt." I was so surprised I told this person that they were the first to do so and that I greatly appreciated their support.

After looking at these photos, I was just trying to imagine what responses VFP members must hear when they wear the t-shirt (and admiring their courage to do so).

Deep appreciation for your past service and continuing service and bravery - and all VRP members.

26. Nice to hear. It is always nice to get surprised in that way.
Just a suggestion, start carrying with you the brochure for joining VFP.

You don't have to be a Vet to be an associate member.

Call the office and ask them to send you a few.

31. I wear the lapel pin every day at work on my tie
I am a high school teacher and the students ask me what it means. I tell them who we are and what we want to achieve. Now, here is something which surprised me: My current principal is a retired Marine officer and he asked me what my pin represented, so I told him; and I stated that if he wanted me to remove it, I would (you know, expressions of political opinions in a public school). His response, "No, keep it on. I want people to know that peace is patriotic too."

I almost fell on the floor.

32. I'm seriously thinking of the DC rally
1. Because I think it is a good idea
2. 24 September is also my birthday and that would be one heck of a fine way to celebrate. :woohoo:

On another note, I work outside of my home area which considers itself the buckle on the Bible Belt. I was entering a grocery store wearing my tie-dye (yes, I still do that occasionally) and an old guy who was sitting next to the front door said, albeit in a mutter, "f***in' hippie".
I stopped and looked him in the eye and said, "I a f***in' hippie I may be, but I'm also a decorated veteran of the US Marine Corps." He gave me an odd look, but didn't say anything else. Then I went into the store. He was gone by the time I left.

34. There seems to be two schools of thought developing for the 24th.
Get as many as we possibly can to DC, but hold local actions as well for all those unable to afford to make it to DC.
