34. It only takes one person to change the world for good or ill.
Bush has changed it for ill. Perhaps Cindy can change it for good.

2. It's a good strategy forces his hand has always been a weak point
I don't think there is a chance that he will actually come out and meet with her simply because she is demanding that he do so and with his spoiled brat attitude he won't come out because he "doesn't wanna" because "she isn't the boss of me". So it will gain momentum as she no doubt will have to follow him back to DC. The only thing that would be satisfactory at this point is a meeting where he says point blank, I was wrong, I lied and I am deeply and profoundly sorry for putting your son in harms way to satisfy my need for power and greed. That is the truth but we all know those words will not come out of that man's mouth. So the heat will increase and so will the exposure, Go Cindy!!!!!!

44. They're working on it. Growing legs with a flip-flop story developing
At present, they're trying to get traction that the "praised Bush" in the summer of 2004 just after meeting with him.

Personally, I don't see her quoted remarks as "praise"...if true. I had not seen before this 'Sludge Exclusive' that she had ever met Bush.

Regardless, presuming the quotes are accurate and complete, it raises some questions for me. Such as the odd coincidence that one Cindy Sheehan was questioned then quoted in a newspaper, now that SAME Cindy Sheehan who is now gaining notoriety as speaking out (STRONGLY) against Bush. What a coincidence! Even more of a coincidence that these remarks have only come to light since she and many supporters have planted themselves on the perimiter of Bush's Crawford Estate.

Also, imagine that she had made highly critical remarks to the reporter. Would they have been printed? Would she have been plastered and slimed as Un-Patriotic and Traiterous because...we're at WAR and those would be 'outrageous' comments to make about 'our Commander in Chief' while we're at WAR (not to mention in the throes of a nasty campaign season)?

So, they're working on it.

If all the mothers of ALL the fallen were doing what she is, maybe they'd get some coverage too.

25. Do you honestly think it would get as much coverage
if she was black? I honestly had written that she was blond and white as a joke, (Aruba) but when thinking about it........I think it may be true. I know it's awful, but I don't think it's really a story that they're really interested in. But, they are there and need to write something, and she's blond and white, and they know blond and white sells.

And talk about snarky, are you saying that all the other mothers of the fallen are shirking their duty by not protesting?

after their son was killed in the early months of the war. They said pretty much everything Sheehan is saying. They didn't get a fraction of the support.

Not that I'm criticizing the support.

29. but I can understand the sentiment. "Aruba all the time"
The fact that she IS out there, with some supporters, was bound to happen. I bow to her for taking this step. Will it have any impact? no way. Boy President was born into a life of privilege. Those who were not, do not get the time of day from him. Worse yet, anyone questioning his judgment or abilities will get shot down (figuratively) or worse.

31. you know, i was pained by zalinda's comment, but i had to realize that
one of the reasons Cindy Sheehan has gotten so far, aggressively enough TO give this legs, is because she hasn't yet been dragged away and arrested - or mental-institutionalized - FOR being aggressive,

where a womon of color would have been. absolutely would have been.

that makes it no less courageous of Cindy, though.
and no less important to waking this coutry to truth.

peace

actions will make it more possible for all to be heard, now.

maybe that's how it's should be, really: the privileged laying privilege, even freedom and lives, on the line to make it more possible - safer - for all?

no matter what else, nothing can lessen heroism of Cindy Sheehan's stand!

Cindy is doing an outstanding job. I'm not making light of Cindy or what she's doing, but of the news media. The media has not been very receptive to anything anti Bush. But, they have been very receptive to exploiting blond, white women.

Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 07:10 AM by annabanana
They went over her first, unsatisfactory, meeting with him.. her responses to the "high level spokesmen who tried to explain the President's policy to her" and let her say, on air

"I told them 'I may be grieving, but I'm not stupid, and neither are you ', and I don't think even THEY believe what they're telling me"

and finished the bit with the fact that she plans to stay there all August, if necessary.

the pResident will be leaving his ranch today to go to New Mexico to sign the energy bill, but will not be leaving by motorcade...he will be using his helicopter, so he does not have to pass her and the group protesting.

Bush says it's no vacation at his Crawford ranch

By JULIE MASON -- Aug. 6, 2005, 9:52PM
Houston Chronicle Washington Bureau

---snip (last paragraph) ----
Last week, Bush again brushed off polls showing his public approval ratings are the lowest of his presidency, saying a politician who made decisions based on polls would be "a miserable leader."

Reminded that power is perception, Bush scoffed, "Power is being president."

This story has the same legs everything else does. Little stubby legs with ReTHUGlican-removable prothesi on them.

42. It's because reporters in Crawford are always bored
Nothing for them to do in the middle of nowhere... and they're stuck there for a month. Of course, they're going to focus on her.

Cindy Sheehan picked the perfect place and perfect time. A bunch of national reporters bored out of their skulls and she gives them a beautifully wrapped human interest story.

It's great. I'm so glad this is happening.
