Headline – Portland DU’er MeetUp deemed “Raging Success”
Dateline – Aug. 7, 2005

Dedicated members of the dissident group Democratic Underground met Saturday evening to discuss the relevant issues of the day, and to consume many tasty brews.

The meeting was termed a “Raging Success” by one unnamed source.

The group’s agenda for this meeting included Andy Stephenson and Election Reform, the psychology of Freepers, the pResidents falling approval ratings, Cindy Sheenan at the Crawford ranch, the Lucky Lab IPA vs. the Organic Golden Pale, October Surprise, Israel/Palestine, and the best hiking/camping/sightseeing spots in our beautiful state. A top-ranking member educated newer members with a brief history of the organization. The secret agenda covered plans to upgrade the technology infrastructure, add new services for members, and top secret data was shared concerning the numbers of active members, tombstoned members, and site traffic.

Efforts were made to inform the general public, guest citizens questions were answered by members and received well by some, not as readily by others. One British gentleman seemed aghast at our political system, and turned away shaking his head in befuddlement. A group of young anarchists asked some very good questions about corporatism, peak oil, and survival after the crash, and members suggested they read The Long Emergency (Kunstler) and The People’s History of the United States (Zinn).

Details from the Official Record of the meeting follow…

Members attending:
Trajan
PDX Bara
Viva_La_Revolution
Organism
depakid
Tom Kitten
Elad and friend
LiviaOlivia

Members who RSVP’d and didn’t show were generally booed and oaths were made to give them a hard time. :P

As they were unable to solve all the world’s issues in one evening, members wrapped up the meeting by a voice vote to ‘do this again’.

Date and location to be announced.

5. Only in Portland...
...will a casual meeting of Democrats be more likely disrupted by a squad of anarchist eco-innovators than typical freeper slime.

I love this place!

6. In defense of the anarchist eco-innovators
They beliive in building communities though local food security, delinking from globalization and organizations like http://www.cityrepair.org/

They'll be allies- and perhaps even leaders in the decades to come....

7. I have nothing against the anarchist eco-innovators
Heck, if there's a viable long-term answer to the problems raised by the current human condition, those guys are probably coming as close to it as you can get in urban America.

Everywhere else, DUers report disturbances from neo-con jesusbot trolls.

In Portland, we get eloquent challenges from anarchist eco-innovators.

That's just the kind of place it is.
