That Nazareth fellow would be Dem today (Arizona Repubic)
http://www.azcentral.com/news/opinions/columns/articles/0807valdez071.html

Don't think the "fundies" will be too happy with this story.

"Retired Lutheran minister Daniel Bruch of Live Liberal gets right to the point: "I don't know if Jesus was the first liberal, but he was an important one."

Jesus taught love, tolerance, forgiveness, charity and humility. Don't take my word for it. Read the New Testament. It's not that long. And it's not about fire-and-brimstone fundamentalism, judging one another or dominating the Earth. It outlines a philosophy based on a really radical idea: Love your creator, love yourself, love your neighbor as yourself.

When it comes to following this lesson, the current administration "is walking 180 degrees opposite of the person they call their savior," Bruch said in a phone interview."

--------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure how I feel about this. While I think that Jesus' teaching is more in tune with "liberal and progressive" values, I don't want my party to "claim Jesus as their own", any more than I want the Repukes to do it. Religious dogma, whether on the left, or on the right, is not helpful to Democracy (IMHO).

That said, it is nice to see put into words, what I believe in my heart....JESUS WAS A LIBERAL!!!

Can't wait to see the "fundies" heads explode though. If Jesus were running for Congress in Ohio, Rush Limpballs would say his "crucifixion was just to 'pad the resume'".

8. Ufortunately, the Orwellian Language Facist Have Done Such
a good job equating the word "liberal" with the stereotype they want to equate it with, that people run from the word liberal as if it were infected with the plague.

We may be way beyond the point where we can reclaim that word. You have to give credit where credit is due, they have just about wiped that word from the face of our current political map.

Don't believe me? Tell me who has won statewide office anywhere in the last 15 years by running as a "liberal".

Don't flame me. I'm just stating a fact.

17. would jesus surrender his identity?
Kucinich comes to mind but it's true, like i said, Dem's now run away from the term.

personally i think it is failed strat. that only cost us more when we run and hide, no respect in that nor success.

clinton's campaign speeches in the 90's were some of the BEST populist/liberal speeches i've ever heard on the teeVee.

shoot he even got in talking openly about gays in the military, among other things, with the conservatives throw'n a fit.

America IS Liberal and the polls CONSISTENTLY show they are with us on all social issues.

i wish our leaders find their spines... they could learn a LOT from jesus.

:hi:

peace

4. You have to look at the times in which Jesus Taught
Jesus was Very liberal while the Pharisees were very conservative. Who had Jesus put to death? It wasn’t the Pontius Pilot, he was just a patsy of the Roman Empire. Pontius Pilot even told Jesus to Stand up for himself as there was no criminal evidence against him. The Roman Emperor also would not have really cared that much.

It was the Pharisees (the conservatives) that had him killed through the manipulation of people. It was the Pharisees telling the crowd to “release Barabbas” so Jesus would be in essence executed.

Jesus of course would never be a Democrat, after all he did preach separation of the Church and State.

6. Actually Jesus was most likely a Pharisee and Pharisees were more liberal
than the Sadducee's, who ran the Temple. The Sadducee's are equivalent to wealthy Republicans today and the Pharisees are a cross between Democrats and moderate Republicans or today. The high priests that had Jesus arrested were the Sadducee's.

Jesus was a Rabbi and it would not be uncommon for him to spar with other Rabbis who were Pharisees.

10. Well That Didn't Take Long (WARNING: Link to Freaker Site)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1459044/posts

"I heard the Dems were thinking about allowing Pro-Life people back into the party. I guess that might allow Him in too.

But what about the concept of stealing from one person (taxes) to give to another (socialism)? Seems like that would be counter to His teachings as well.

And, lets not even get into the whole sodomy rights thing."

"Alot of people misinterpret the way Jesus handled the Money Changers in the Temple. He wasn't against them or the use of money or business. People needed to exchange their money for different currency in order to buy animals for sacrifice to God. Jesus was angered by the cheating that was going on."

"Let's see:
1. Would Jesus be shacked up with a Liberal/Socialist/Progressive/Communist hairy legs and arm pits, bra-burning, enviro-wacko, pro-abortion babe? No.

2. Would Jesus have children out of wedlock with out-of-control sex-addicted liberal whores, or abort unborn children? No.

3. Would Jesus go to our elementary schools and inculcate our children to embrace the homosexual lifestyle of wanton hedonistic sex, drugs, and, and disease? No.

4. Would Jesus tell lies to the masses to subvert Christian values and hate America? No.

5. Would Jesus be a drunk who attempts to rape a girl in his car and then kills her by driving off a bridge and cowardly swimming away leaving her to suffocate? No.

6. Would Jesus seek a court order to starve a critically ill woman to death so he could avoid criminal charges and be done with her? No.

I could on and on, but why bother!"

'"Jesus taught love, tolerance, forgiveness" Absolute rubbish. Jesus taught love and tolerance and forgiveness UP TO A POINT, but He also CONSTANTLY warned there is a "judgment" coming, and, moreover, CHRISTIANS would be the judges!!! (See Revelation). Further, He warned repeatedly that the ungodly would not get into the Kingdom of Heaven, and that ONLY one who was "born again" (as He told Nicodemus) could have life eternal. That sounds pretty intolerant to me!
And what about the "narrow gate" and the fact that "wide is the path that leads to DESTRUCTION?" And did Jesus not call the Scribes and Pharisees (i.e., the Dem Spinmeisters) "vipers," and "hypicrites," and say that their father was the devil???"'

---------------------------------------------------------------
These people are "batshit crazy", and they vote!

14. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but Jesus and Old Testament
don't go together at all, right?

2Cr 3:14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which is done away in Christ.

18. The veil is done away.
The Greek is clear; the English is goofy (at least in that translation).

Which, of course, leads to the question: if the OT is "done away with" lock, stock, and barrel, who cares if it's veiled?

9. We don't claim Jesus as our own but we do claim to follow his teachings
The right wing can not make that claim with a straight face. They follow the Old Testiment with it's eye for an eye scripture but we follow a "New Testiment" one filled with love for your fellow man, not hatred.

'love thy neighbor as thyself' line.

But that was Jesus quoting an obsolete source.
