"We WERE greeted with flowers."
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 09:27 AM by Zenlitened
Actual quote from a republi-bot I encountered this weekend.

It was an amazing experience, watching this person tap-dance madly to make excuses for Bush's obvious failure in Iraq. Watching his anger increase as it became clear I had facts to counter each and every one of his preposterous rants in support of Bush. Watching him just make shit up, hoping that if he said it loudly and angrily enough, no one would contradict him.

I actually felt a brief twinge of compassion for this guy, because it seemed to me that he has a ton of emotional problems, all wrapped up in his idiotic "politics." Admitting Bush is a loser would mean admitting that his own state of mind is a house of cards waiting to tumble. That all his bullying and blustering is just a sham -- just like Bush's.

But I couldn't help but laugh out loud when the talk came around to the toppling of Saddam statues. I had suggested these were photo opportunities, staged for the camera as US tanks pulled the statues down. His response: "Pearl Harbor wasn't a photo opportunity."

Jeebus. As if this folly in Iraq is in any way equivalent to WWII. As if invoking Pearl Harbor would have some magical, talismanic power to negate all discussion of Bush's incompetent blundering today.

These people have no facts, no ability to reason whatsoever. They will bob and weave like crazy just to avoid admitting the truth. They will insist they have the "real" story when in fact the best they can do is regurgitate the ravings of the right-wing echo chamber.

And when you point out that they'd be SHREDDING Bill Clinton if he had bungled the response to 9-11 so badly.. well, just watch their shit-filled heads explode.

Stupid, stupid, damaged broken people. Really disgusting, to think that our country is teeming with people like this. There are a million reasons why they're so fucked up, I'm sure. But I'm just about out of "understanding" for them. Compassion-fatigue, big time. We need to get in their faces and shut them the hell up so we can get on with the real work of winning elections. Whether they will -- or can -- reflect on their own shortcomings and learn to grow, to become healthy, functioning adults... I don't really even care any more. Just get them the fuck out of the way while there's still anything left of America to rescue and repair.

We don't need to win these voters over. We need to ignore them completely, and appeal to people who still have the ability to reason.

They found a few containers of poisen gas. But, it didn't get a lot of coverage in the "Liberal media." Drives me nuts.

3. Funny thing is my brother believes we already found them.
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 09:23 AM by Hong Kong Cavalier
Er...he actually believes that Poland found Iraq's ever-elusive WMD's, and naturally the "liberal media" wouldn't report it.

On Edit: He said they were "shaped charges" used exclusively for nuclear weapons. :eyes:

I asked him for proof that the story exists, and of course he couldn't provide it.

Sometimes I hate the kool-ade drinkers. Even when they're family.

12. I hear you.
My brother believes that the WMD's were taken out of Iraq by Saddam and put most likely in Syria. He believes the media may very well be owned by right wingers but the reporters are 90% way left leaning liberals. The liberal media is misinforming the public and that is his "biggest pet peeve". Ugh. How I do NOT have the energy to educate him, he doesn't want to know. He didn't even believe the troops were under equipped. Read it in many articles, but then he bashed the liberal journalist who wrote it.

To give him any credit at all, I think he's shouting so loud because his beliefs are starting to waiver. He no longer watches the news and doesn't start ANY political conversations. This is a sign that he is starting to at least feel deep down that he possibly was duped along with the rest of the country, it's just a hard one to swallow. No shit.

18. My brother never said they were moved to Syria, but what he said...
...was just as maddening. I rarely tolerate his ramblings anymore. I've hung up on him more than once in the past few years. Right now he's recovering from a particularly nasty divorce, and needs his family more than ever.
What's really scary is that I still won't tolerate his right-wing bullshit. He even confronted me about it recently (My hanging up on him in mid-phone call) and I told him that since he doesn't respect my point of view, no matter how many facts I bring to the table, I have no obligation to tolerate his bullshit. Since he doesn't respect me, he gets a dial tone, no matter how badly he needs to talk to his family. He can call our sister for all I care.

I'm 34 years old and he still talks down to me like I'm a naive 12 year old. (There seems to be more issues there than just an argument about Iraq's non-existent WMD's.)

22. Amazing how fiendishly diabolical Saddam was
To develop WMDs and not use them, even when his country was being overrun and he was being deposed, but instead move them to the territory of one of his bitter enemies, all to keep them out of the hands of W*. You usually don't find supervillians that evil this side of a James Bond movie.

20. My aunt still believes they's going to find some.
She's Republican to the core, always has been. Her main quote "I don't want ANYBODY getting anything they didn't work for!"

This coming from a woman who was a housewife her whole life. Whatever she got, her HUSBAND worked for!

She says she's not fond of "that Bush," but refuses to admit her party has left her.

I tried, but GOD she's stubborn. Even after I told her reprehensor and I went and saw Scott Ritter speak, and there were NO WMDs there, she insists that they can't know everything about the entire country, and that they're there somewhere.

6. Yup
I like this quote:

"They will insist they have the "real" story when in fact the best they can do is regurgitate the ravings of the right-wing echo chamber.

If you happen to be a masochist and really want to be sickened, go read the hannity.com/forums and you will encounter the biggest bunch of right wing chamber echoers in your life...These people have ZERO thoughts of their own. Everyone over there, except for a few brave free thinkers, regurgitates almost word for word what Hannity spews on the radio...Its entertaining yet disturbing.

You hit the nail on the head. These same people are voting down Bush's numbers in the polls, but they can't admit out loud what they feel. Their whole world is falling apart and they would have to take some responsibility. Repukes don't take responsibility.

16. I'm a wrestling fan.....
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 09:41 AM by Wetzelbill
It's entertainment. Only an idiot thinks it's real. And, only a fool believes that most wrestling fans actually think that it's real. So that's probably not an apt comparison. Maybe for some it is, I guess. Not the majority of wrestling fans though. Almost all the wrestling fans I know are pretty liberal including myself and my younger brother, who is probably more liberal than I am.

But, I get what you mean. :)

Actually, Fox News is a lot like Pro Wrestling. It's pure entertainment but has no reality to it. At least the WWE calls itself Sports Entertainment and admits it isn't real. Fox and it's fans delude itself. It's the ones that truly believe this shit is true, that you need to watch out for.

14. it's amazing what 9/11 did
The biggest effect those attacks has was not when the towers fell, the Pentagon was in flames, and 3000 Americans died. The main impact was what it allowed our country to be. No terrorist could ever do the damage that Bush and the RWers have done to our country. Now you have people who are xenophobic, racist, hate-filled, with no ability to reason whatsoever, who are permeated into mainstream society. It's almost en vogue to sound like a loon nowadays. The exploitation of 9/11 has made hatred a fashionable thing in America. We're supposed to be better than that.

You know, I have friends that say crazy stuff. People I grew up with and known forever! I know people who say ugly, ugly things. It makes me wonder just who we have to deal with on a daily basis. I always thing, is this guy sitting next to me a closet homophobe, does my doctor hate Mexicans and believe they should be shot if they cross the border, does my friend believe in internment? I always wonder just how far off the deep end we have went. About half of our country has some serious problems in this regard.

It saddens me that we are like this right now.

15. NICE, and I know a bunch of people like this...
When we take back this country, and WE WILL take back this country, these people will have to be dealt with.

I don't mean take them out and line them up and shoot them, although that's always one option...

You think they are mad NOW??
You think they can't be reasoned with NOW?
You think they are illogical and dangerous NOW?

Wait till they start to lose elections.

Just wait until they become the minority party, and the BFEE starts to get slapped with indictments and jail sentences for the crimes they have committed.

How do you think THEY are going to react, when someone tells THEM, if they want to nominate this person or that person, for this post or that post, THEN WIN AN ELECTION.

You think they are going to take THAT sitting down?

The next civil war ain't going to take place in IRAQ.
The next civil was is going to happen HERE.

I think if the right wing conservative leadership implied that we need to "get those liberals" they would start shooting immediately.

We are going to have to deal with these people, before they try to deal with US.

21. "Pearl Harbor wasn't a photo opportunity."
Amazing that he got that right. It wasn't treated like one either. It was treated like a declaration of war, which is what it was.

Iraq didn't bring down the WTC.

I am sick of their lack of critical thinking, too.
