I would think that if shitforbrains called her into the ranch and gave her 15 minutes to say whatever, he could say he met with her, heard her out, and be done with it.

Every day this goes on, it gets more legs, more press coverage, and imho, is going to be harder to defuse.

Just a thought.

1. From what I'm seeing, they're in full attack mode on her now
They probably did a 'work up' on her just like they did with Joe Wilson. Now, they're trying to destroy her credibility.

2. I think it would be in his best interests...
beings his ratings are in the toilet right now. He could show his compassionate side - great photo-op time. :sarcasm:

3. There are probably things even bu$h won't do.
And taking any sort of responsibilty for his actions is at the top of the list. You'd have to hold a gun on the WLF* to get him to even consider meeting with her.

* Worthless Little Fuck

4. With the rumors * is mentally unfit, maybe having an upset mom
come in and actually stand up to him might reveal too much of what he is really like. Yes, to go this far over a lousy 15 minutes is insane, which just might be the problem. They have done an awful lot of work to keep * away from any people unhappy with his policies.

5. If he had a lick of sense
he would take lemonade and cookies out, sit in the shade, and practice that Texas "charm" he is so famous for.

6. Except we know that texas charm is all bullshit and fake!
If he had an advisor with any sense at all they'd be trying to make good with her before a riot breaks out.

They better not hurt her!!!!

7. Meeting
Here are some reasons why Bush may not want to meet with Cindy:

1. He would have to remember her name (and not call her Mom)

2. It would be an unscripted meeting, and it may be difficult to hide his wire and earpiece while wearing a Spongebob t-shirt

3. He's so busy right now clearing brush and milking horses, in between meetings with Condi on his "working" vacation

4. He likes to talk about the "folks" during his speeches, but he doesn't want to actually meet with them.

8. That might work if Bush weren't the biggest coward in the USA
But alas, he is. He is just a lily-livered, yellow-bellied, sniveling fraidy-cat.

10. yep
he knows Cindy could get inside his protective shields. She doesn't take mumbo-jumbo for an answer. She could pierce his heart with her fearless honesty. She could shatter his defenses.

9. I don't know what that would mean
This is an administration that insists on staying the course in Iraq even as the situation worsens and claims a narrow and even disputed election victory as a great mandate. Bush and his handlers regard it as a sign of weakness to admit mistakes or acknowledge any point made by the opposition. That doesn't even take into account actions that are just plain dishonest and even criminal.

Cindy Sheehan will be ignored because she does not share their cozy little world view where the sacrifice of the Casey Sheehans of the world is regarded as worthwhile as long as it promotes the fortunes of war profiteers and they believe its about promoting democracy, like they're told to believe. Mrs. Sheehan neither believes the lies nor thinks Mr. Bush's cause worthy of her son's sacrifice.

Even if Bush met with her, it would change nothing. Bush would silently and politely listen (if she's lucky), tell her how sorry he is and move on to his next appointment while the White House spinmeisters repeat the same lies as if she stayed home instead of going to Crawford.

11. But...
Even if Bush met with her, it would change nothing. Bush would silently and politely listen (if she's lucky), tell her how sorry he is and move on to his next appointment

But it would give his vipers a chance to talk up the fact that he 'met' with her, and then they could frame any further demonstration as the work of a 'nutcase'.

13. Response
One of the problems I have in your post and in the one that anchors this thread is it is framed as what it would mean to Bush and his fellow thugs to meet with Mrs. Sheehan. It would have some propaganda value. How is that important to us?

Frankly, it wouldn't mean much to me if he met with her, either. It won't change my view that he and his aides are war criminals who should not be given a moment's peace until they are locked up with the key thrown away.

14. Oh, I agree with you 100%
I was suggesting that I didn't understand the administration's interest in antagonizing a grieving mother while she is attracting increasing amounts of press coverage.

15. That's the way they do business
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 01:27 PM by Jack Rabbit
See also my remarks in post 9.

The Bush regime attempts to create an illusion of national unity where there is none. By ignoring Mrs. Sheehan, they are pretending that she doesn't exist and that there is no widespread dissent over Bush's boneheaded occupation of Iraq.

Some leaders of the past, including Reagan, Carter, Clinton and even Nixon, would have done as you suggest.

12. Not a chance
That would set a poor precedent five years into Bush's corrupt administration. Meet with one person unhappy with the effects of his misguided policies, and he might have to meet with another one. No way that's going to happen.
