Sitution in Crawford escalating. Help needed RIGHT NOW!
I just talked with Hadi and he said help me get the ACLU here ASAP.

Seems as how intimidation is rising to new levels. Several squad cars along with property owners putting up no trespassing signs in an attempt to clear the roadway. Bush has a planned fund raising event where he will be forced to use this road on Friday. (I aslo learned he is supposed to be a attending a ball game in Waco, details still unknown).

The cards and letters of support are wonderful, one of the Crawford volunteers (Kay) is planning on putting up something to post them all on.

T-shirts are a great idea and I'm working on it.

For the person who suggested sending flyers to hand out, they would be most welcomed. (send them to the Peace House 9142 East 5th, Crawford, Tx 76638)

On the person who was ready to call a pizza place or sandwich shop,
There is not a pizza place but Kay suggested calling "The Coffee Shop Cafe", owner Sammy Citrano (he caters lots for Bush, sandwich plates and the like), phone 254-840-2027 or to call a new Subway (254-840-0555) in McGregor which is only 6 miles away and someone will go pick them up.
Their is also a Bar-B-Que place in McGregor, have not been able to
reach them yet (254-840-3344).

Water is needed as well, the Peace House ran out of their supply sometime on Saturday.

Thanks everyone.

14. They are on the side of a Farm to Market road as far as I know no one
needed any permits for this. Usually for any demonstration held there all the permits needed are taken care of.

This was a very spontaneous affair with 0 lead time or notice. Fortunately the Peace House is not to far away. Tonkawa Falls is also an excellent camp out spot.

Staying on the road is important, Bush does not like to see protestors and he has to leave the ranch for the fundraiser and Rummny and Condi are due on Thursday.

posting here on DU as Dylan Garcia. You'd think the Peace House would be able to connect with someone in the local community to get some land for them to be on without worry of speeding vehicles or property rights... Im guessing for now, it's best for them to be as close to the ranch for as long as possible.

The Coffee Shop owner is a big Bush fan (or so I'm told). Kay and I had a discussion on this subject this very morning, she lives there and pretty much runs the House. We thought it might just be a good idea for some of us to give him some business on behalf of those opposed to Bush.

It could have a positive rather than negative impact.

35. There is a city ordinance against protesting..
without filling out the proper forms evidently.

"The ordinance -- which was passed after Bush was elected president in 2000 -- makes it a misdemeanor to hold a "procession, parade or demonstration" on any public space in Crawford without giving 15 days' notice, paying a $25 fee and obtaining the permission of the sheriff. After the demonstrators' arrest in May, the rule was changed to allow seven days' notice. " - snip

The law also says that demonstrators must confine their activities to the local high school football field. It does not define how many people constitute a "procession, parade or demonstration."

May be prudent for Cindy's lawyer to talk to these folks.

78. ALL roads EVERYWHERE have a lot bigger right of way than the paved or
unpaved ribbon that is considered the "road".

It's called a "setback" and is usually a minimum of 20 feet for on property fronting any roads.

I've never seen any that weren't, and I've been a practicing architect since 1976.

86. Setback are STILL private property.
By setback I am assuming that you are talking about that part of one's property that you can not build on that fronts the road. (Fences are usually allowed. Depends upon whether it is a city or rural location.) It is still private property.

Now if you are talking about the strip between the pavement and the property line, that is different.

Endless summer

As they head to regional action, the Eastdale seventh-graders just want to play ball, and they hope their season goes on and on

That innocence still prevails among the seventh-graders who play for the Eastdale Little League Majors All-Star team, bound for the regional tournament in Waco, Texas.

Major all-stars prepare for regionals
By WES WOLFE / Staff Reporter Thursday, August 4, 2005 3:19 PM CDT

Practicing in the sweltering Texas heat Wednesday, the Washington County major baseball all-stars continued their trek to a possible spot in the Little League World Series, but the team has to win the Southwest Region first.

Despite the possibility of playing on national television if they make it to the regional championship, Washington County manager Mark Bentke said that the all-stars are treating the upcoming tournament like any other.

<snip>

Washington County enters the Southwest regional going up against teams representing Albuquerque, N.M., Biloxi, Miss. and Tulsa, Okla. in the initial round-robin games. If the team gets out of those three games with one or no losses, it will move on to the regional tournament, which is single-elimination. Their first game is against Eastdale, of Albuquerque, at 1 p.m. Sunday at Marvin Norcross Stadium in Waco.

69. Can someone please tell me why the donations arent going directly to gsfp
http://www.angelfire.com/de3/4osad/4osaddon.html

They already have a pay pal account for donations. Im sure there is a reason, but Im not understanding why this would funnel through the Peace House... not GSFP or Veterans for Peace.

79. It is taken care of. Kay is on her way to pick up 2 platters around 4:00
There was some confusion with the order Flyarm wished to place.

Here is an update:

There is a major storm happening now and all are running for cover. Press are converging on Peace House for interviews with Cindy and others.

Kay said all in all there probably around 50 there in support of Cindy, media not counted.

Fun quote: "Sammy from the Coffee Shop Cafe asked me to send him 10 volunteers to answer his phones".

I have also been informed donations being made are all going to support this event for as long as it takes and for as long as Cindy stays in Crawford. If anything is left whenever this ends it is my understanding she has said she is giving to Crawford Peace House for their support of her in this adventure.

Hope that might make some of you feel secure in where your dollars might be going.

80. Yay!!
I had no worries about the money so much as the food. :) I hope it'll help even a little bit. I got sandwiches, thinking they'd keep at least in a cooler, if all else fails.

I'd be down there if I weren't ill (just had a procedure done today--ick). Tell everyone how much we're all praying for them and hoping this will be a watershed moment.

99. William Pitt's article makes the front page of Google
William Pitt's article makes the front page of Google:

http://peacejournalism.com/ReadArticle.asp?ArticleID=4557

<...>

"His mouth kept moving," Sheehan later recalled of her meeting with Bush, "but there was nothing in his eyes or anything else about him that showed me he really cared or had any real compassion at all. This is a human being totally disconnected from humanity and reality. His eyes were empty, hollow shells." Bush called her "Ma" or "Mom" throughout the whole meeting, and never got around to learning her name.

"The whole meeting was simply bizarre and disgusting," Sheehan said later. "designed to intimidate instead of providing compassion. He didn't even know our names. I just couldn't believe this was happening. It was so surreal and bizarre. Later I met with some of the other fifteen or sixteen families who were at the White House the same day and, sure enough, they all felt the same way I did."

That was it. Cindy Sheehan, who had never been politically active in her life, became an activist. She traveled the country to speak to whomever would listen, she told the story of Casey's life and death, and she threw fire at George W. Bush with the passionate anguish of a mother who was forced to bury her son.

"Casey was told that he would be welcomed to Iraq as a liberator with chocolates and rose petals strewn in front of his unarmored Humvee" Sheehan wrote in February. "He was in Iraq for two short weeks when the Shi'ite rebel 'welcome wagon' welcomed him to Baghdad with bullets and RPG's, which took his young and beautiful life. Casey was killed after George Bush proclaimed 'Mission Accomplished' on May 1, 2003. Hundreds of our young people and thousands of Iraqis have been needlessly and senselessly murdered since George Bush triumphantly announced an end to 'major combat' almost 2 years ago now. All of the above events have been heralded by this administration as 'turning points' in the 'war on terror' - or as wonderful events in the 'march of democracy.'"
