Will Bush send more troops just to pull them out next Spring?

I just heard that, after two years of arguing that "we don't need more troops in Iraq", that pResident Bush is talking about sending more troops into Iraq... supposedly in response to the recent spike in violence.

This immediately made me think how this seemed in direct opposition to their proposal to "begin pulling troops out by next Spring"... most certainly as a political ploy in time for the 2006 election so they can say, "Look! Things are going so well in Iraq, we can start bringing the troops home! So vote for us!" And just enough sheeple are likely to fall for it for it to work. But *is it really* contrary?

Are they're planning on sending more troops in just to pull them out next year w/o leaving Iraq with fewer troops than we have now?

Pentagon Likely to Raise Iraq Troops

WASHINGTON -- Before the Pentagon begins reducing troop levels in Iraq next year it probably will increase them this fall to provide extra security for a planned October referendum and a December election, a Pentagon official said Monday.
