Why Aren't More Parents And Relatives Of Those Killed Down In Crawford?
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 01:35 PM by DistressedAmerican
Cindy is doing a great thing down there and I am psyched that she is getting so much support from around the country. But, with over 1,800 KIA and tens of thousands more wounded, where are the rest of these folks? Why aren't they pouring in in support of this project?

(note: Not trying to dis anyone. Just sort of suprised...)

I know that a lot are active in the anti-war movement.

Thoughts?

I wish we had at least one family member there for every one killed and injured in Bush's folly.

Think of it. Just a one for one representation of what we have lost. Let the world see how many people that is all in one spot, Bush's doorstep. That would be something!

My hat is off to you Cindy and I plead with the rest of you to join her!

No one deserves a voice more than you!

:patriot:

1. Well, one reason could be...
...that Cindy wasn't planning this months in advance, as far as I know. People usually can't just drop everything and spend a week in Crawford on a one-day notice.

But my guess is that if Cindy's vigil keeps on going, we'll see more families join her.

2. I Sure Hope So! That Would Be Great!

Didn't realize that it was real spur of the moment on her part. Although it definitely was not planned as a large publicized event.

Hope it gathers steam now as people learn what is going on.

3. That's what I was thinking too Goldmund
She made up her mind to go to Crawford like 2-3 days
before she went . It was spur of the moment.

6. She Was Down For The Vetran For Peace Conference Right?
That was my understanding. I had assumed that she planned this all along.

Still filling in my details I guess.

Good for her to take it the extra mile! That is awesome!

Way off topic - I bought a bunch of different sized flags and bunting for freeway blogging, etc. on the spur of the moment the other day.

It was on sale! Always useful for actions!

4. Because not all parents of dead soldiers are antiwar activists?
Some support the war.

Some have to support the war to give meaning to the loss of their child.

Some are too devastated to do anything.

Some (probably quite a few) aren't even aware that this is going on.

Give the poor people a break, yeah?

8. Like I Said In My OP, I Wasn't Dissing Anyone. Made That Quite Clear.

Why the attitude?

I'm not trying to give anyone a hard time...

11. Sorry dude. Didn't realize I was coppin' a 'tude!
Just pointing out some likely reasons for the lack of participation by many of these parents. I ended my post the way I did simply to point out that, no matter what the reason, you can't really blame people for not being there. In that sense, I'm actually agreeing with you in saying you can't really dis any of these people.

9. I think that's a likely scenario ...
...as well as the fact that the recruits aren't from the most affluent segment of society ... it takes $$$ to get there. I know nobody was "dis'ing" anyone, but my guess is that the reasons are many and are complex.

10. I believe it would be more effective..
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 01:50 PM by Lannes
To have all the gold star mothers or any other family members of those serving overseas to be in front of the White House where there will be more news outlets to cover it,including those from overseas.

They can then demand to talk to Bush about why we went there and what is his plan to get out? I believe she has done that at the white House before but a much larger demonstration of families with the backdrop of the White House would make more of an impact.Conyers,Kucinich among others could be there as well with Cindy Sheehan leading the protest.
