I know that folks are attached to their avatars.

But, please consider adopting this one for a while.

It is intended to serve as a reminder of Cindy Sheehan, her great work and all those that have suffered and lost in this immoral war. I hope it accomplishes its mission unlike our commander in chief.

Thanks to EVERYONE that has been supporting this demonstration of heartfelt dismay over the war in Iraq.

Right click on the image and save it to your machine.

Then go under DU's options and "Edit Your Profile"

Change your avatar by uploading the file from where you saved it. The image is a gif. You will have to mark that.

There are directions there for doing the upload there.

Just be sure to copy new info in as it instructs at the end of the upload.

It will tell you to insert something that looks like this "personal/xxxxxxxx.gif"

Copy and paste that in its entirety and save.

That should do it.

The new avatar won't update. I keep getting the same personal avatar #, the same old avatar. Any ideas?

Sounds more like a glitch in the system than something you are doing.

37. make sure to place your mouse over the image then right click your mouse

on that image and it will say
save image to... (i saved it on my desktop)

then go to options then edit profile (as you did) then change your avatar and click link there that says "upload" your own image and

1) you will choose where your image is (if you saved it to desktop then choose that)

then 2) choose .gif when du box asks if its jpeg or .gif

then 3) hit update (i think thats what it says)

after this do a copy and paste (op says above) for what this image is called
this will replace what your current avatar is so where it lists that just replace it with this new title

mine was titled "personal (something something) .gif"
so copy and paste this title into the du box for where it says avatar
you will see what your previous avatar was so just replace it with the title of this new one as listed above (personal.....gif)

then hit update or whatever it asks

let me know if you need any more help because i know all these little steps can be confusing

It is a touchy process. you really have to follow all the directions closely.

There was one issue earlier that we could not figure out. It required a mod contact.

63. Just received this email from the administrators. Hope this helps!

Because we're allowing people to upload files to our server, we have
to have some extra security checks in place to protect ourselves. You
get that message if our server can't verify your IP address as your own,
i.e. you're probably using a proxy of some sort to get online. Many
times AOL users get this error since AOL uses proxies frequently, or it
could be your office network or if you're connecting from a library or
from a public wi-fi spot - all of these are cases where you could be
using a proxy rather than a direct connection to the internet.

If you find a direct connection (friend's house, trying from home if
you're at work, etc), you should be able to upload your avatar.

I do have AOL but I also have broadband, so I just used Internet Explorer to get onto DU and it worked!
