Groups Applaud Bush ‘For Standing Up’ For Intelligent Design

Christian groups embraced President Bush's recent comments that he believed schools should discuss "intelligent design" alongside evolution when teaching students about the creation of life. During a round-table interview with reporters from five Texas newspapers last week, Bush declined to go into detail about his personal views of the origin of life, but he said students should learn about each explanation, Knight Ridder Newspapers reported.
"I think that part of education is to expose people to different schools of thought," Bush said. "You're asking me whether or not people ought to be exposed to different ideas, the answer is yes."

Proponents of intelligent design say life on earth is too complex to have developed through evolution, implying that a higher power must have had a hand in creation, the Associated Press reported. Scientists have rejected the explanation as an attempt to force religion into science education.

The theory has been gaining support in school districts in 20 states, with Kansas in the lead.

2. I for one, wish...
that the reports would more accurately describe these groups. Calling them "Christian groups" implies they represent all christians.
Then they act like "proponents of intelligent design" are against scientists, with the implication that "christian groups" are all for intelligent design.

they should more accurately describe as rightwing nutjob crazypants theofascists.

ah well, can't have everything.

3. For instance, a teacher could say: "Here is the fossil record that
suggests evolutionary development of human beings over millions of years."

And then the teacher can add, "But there are still some ignoramuses who will only accept Biblical myth as presented in the literal interpretation of Genesis to explain how we got here."

See, the teacher has now taught both subjects side by side.
