Bush, Sheehans share moments
By David Henson/Staff Writer

Since learning in April that their son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, had been killed in Iraq, life has been everything but normal for the Sheehan family of Vacaville.

Casey's parents, Cindy and Patrick, as well as their three children, have attended event after event honoring the soldier both locally and abroad, received countless letters of support and fielded questions from reporters across the country.

"That's the way our whole lives have been since April 4," Patrick said. "It's been surreal."

But none of that prepared the family for the message left on their answering machine last week, inviting them to have a face-to-face meeting with President George W. Bush at Fort Lewis near Seattle.

1. Kick - come on guys - you've been arguing about this
since Sludge saluted Rove and took it out of context!

3. Proves Squat as usual
But they'll quote it out of context and try their Flip Flop tactics on Cindy. I was more disappointed in some DU'ers here early in the day who went off on Cindy over a few quotes Sludge posted.

4. First of all, some of it sounds scripted
especially her saying, "he's a man of faith." How many times have I read that same quote from people who've met *? That's why it doesn't ring true. For one thing, who even talks that way? Would you call someone a "person of love" or a "woman of music?" It almost sounds as if they got some of this from another article.

5. Nah, I've heard people called of faith
Edited on Mon Aug-08-05 05:04 PM by RamboLiberal
but in print you blather on to some reporter and he spins it with his personal view and cherry picks the quotes he uses.

Good Lord cause she said a couple of nice things about Bush at the time, some people here are almost painting her a traitor. (Not aimed at you Lisa M but some posters in other threads).

And sometimes it takes a while for a conviction to build. Especially as you watch this war day by day and watch the futility grow.

12. Oh, no, I meant maybe she was misquoted
I just meant, it's odd that so many people use the exact same phrase.

6. I agree-

Drudge had left out this quote
"We haven't been happy with the way the war has been handled," Cindy said. "The president has changed his reasons for being over there every time a reason is proven false or an objective reached."
Drudge LOVES hearing from me,but I think I've been effective in getting some news on the first page...I think I'll drop a line...

9. My e-mail to Matt Drudge,for what it's worth

How dare you twist the facts to make the story fit your agenda.Go back and read the Reporter's article about Cindy Sheehan. You quoted Pat,her husband, and made the quote sound like Cindy made it.You left out this quote
"We haven't been happy with the way the war has been handled," Cindy said. "The president has changed his reasons for being over there every time a reason is proven false or an objective reached."
...which WAS made by Cindy.
You made it sound like she was happy after meeting the President....when she was happy meeting other families who had been through her pain.
You must be taking lessons from Karl Rove.I always thought you had more integrity than that,Matt. You have lost ALL credibility with me.

10. Drudge taking lessons from Rove - No he salutes and says
Heil Herr Rove and starts the smear. This is a coordinated effort just like the SBVL last August.

7. It means squat
Anyone who has lost a child would know the shock and numbness that sets in with the news and lasts for months, even years. You say what's expected of you, operate on auto, eat when food is placed in front of you, etc. She's just coming back to reality and can see things for what they truly were and truly are. Bless her heart, just bless her heart!

8. Well, let me be the first DUer to forgive this lady
for speaking out gracefully in a moment when she was still obviously in shock. Evidently, she used to be the sort who believed, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Thankfully, she has gotten past that phase.

However they turn, let every one turn. And she is one of the brightest, bravest lights we've seen in a while, so I cannot disparage this convert.
