9. I like your idea of Ron Reagan Jr.
The only problem with that though is that he would have to remain nonpartisan. I think he is too good a spokesman for the left not to be allowed a forum where he can express his opinions. I do really like him though!

16. Karl Rove. The news media just repeats what he says anyway.
I must say that I didn't watch ABC, NBC or CBS in the lead up to the war in Iraq, but they all repeated mindlessly this bullshit about "weapons of mass destruction," uranium, whatever. I certainly don't recall any questions from ABC about labeling the war for Halliburton as part of the "War on Terror."

Bullshit.

In 2000, they all bought into the lie that "Bush won" and Gore was merely being a sore loser.

I'm not into Jennings worship.

Not one member of the modern news media would have the right to wipe Walter Cronkite's ass.

The news media has zero credibility and it is the news media's own fault.

35. Well, that's their loss
I'm all for seeing women get the big jobs, but none of the ABC women other than Barbara Walters, are really up to it. Barbara Walters has pretty much made a joke of herself with "The View" and she's too old anyway. Carole Simpson and Elizabeth Vargas just don't have big enough personalities to pull it off.

Gibson is just so bland and inoffensive, even when he's asking a tough question. He's ok delivering the news but I don't see him as much of an interviewer. Koeppel is tough, brilliant, known all over the world, and still in his sixties. In my opinion they'd be a fool not to use him, but hey, ABC does lots of foolish things.

There is nothing appealing to me about Brian Williams- I can't even get through a half hour. At least Rather and Brokaw had personality.

39. I agree with you
It is a shame not to use the best person you have, but unfortunately with the huge corporate ownership everything becomes about branding....... so they need to have "their face" that will be working for a while.

The only good thing about that is that Koeppel will stay with Dateline which is more gritty and honest show (too bad most people aren't watching)

48. You mean Nightline!
Actually I had the pleasure of being in a "town hall meeting" that Koeppel led in a University auditorium over ten years ago in Chicago. There were 1000 people there, including VIPs from the State of IL and the Health Care industry and lots of students. The topic was health care. The show was so good they kept it on air for about two hours longer than it was supposed to be. He was thoroughly knowledgable on the topic, knew how to warm up an audience, found a way to include or refer to all those VIPs, and had no problem with going on and off air for commercials. It was a pretty impressive performance!

He has that depth of knowledge in world affairs as well. Too bad most people don't care enough to watch him that late at night.

then again Jennings spent nearly 10 years living and reporting from the middle east. That definitely gave him an edge when reporting on that part of the world.

41. I didn't know Peter Jennings had
passed on..I saw your poll and googled Peter Jennings..

snip~I found this bit interesting..

"For two decades he and his rivals from NBC and CBS defined the importance of a story by their very presence and their self-confident and slightly ponderous style.

But the networks' ratings have plummeted as viewers turn to blogs, 24-hour cable news and more partisan sources, abandoning their parents' ritual of sitting down as a family to watch their favourite anchor every evening.

Underlying the flood of commentary and hagiography was the sense that Jennings's death formally ended that era. In seven months the grand old trio has departed the studio: NBC's Tom Brokaw retired in December and CBS's Dan Rather resigned in March after broadcasting a report based on forged documents."

DENVER -- Singer-songwriter Marc Cohn survived being shot in the head during an attempted carjacking early Monday in downtown Denver.

Police said they have an arrest warrant out for Joseph William Yachteen, 26, the suspected shooter.

According to police, Cohn was in a van when he was shot. The gunman tried to stop the van and fired into it. Cohn was struck in the temple, police said.

Police said the gunman had attempted to carjack another vehicle without success before the shooting.

The Grammy award-winning singer is married to ABC News Anchor Elizabeth Vargas. She flew to Denver Monday afternoon to be with her husband. They were expected to return to New York City when he is able.

53. A somewhat different perspective here.....
I don't want to "place the race card" but I would really like to see the next anchor be an African-American.

The last anchors of the major three networks were all White men. When I turn on the news, I really don't see anyone who looks like me.

I would like to see someone who looks like me, reporting the news from a perspective that affects my community.

incredibly informative. I always watched them. I got hooked on these specials when he explained the Bosnian conflict. He really broke it down and made it understandable. And, considering the history of Bosnia, that's saying something. And each one I saw after was of the same caliber.
