POLITICS-US: A Holy Trinity of Church, Boardroom and GOP?
NEW YORK, Aug 8 (IPS) - U.S. Pres. George W. Bush continues to seek broader support from the African American community -- most recently with a pledge to persuade corporate foundations to give more money to faith-based charities.

In a closed-door session at the White House with 17 black ministers and civic leaders -- his second such meeting since January -- Bush said the White House plans to sponsor a March summit to bring together corporate foundation leaders and faith-based social service organisations, many of which are affiliated with black churches.

Beau Grosscup, professor of international relations at California State University, told IPS, ”The Rove-Bush team has embarked on a new southern strategy to lure rightwing Christian African Americans to their cause. It is a sure bet they will not be encouraging corporate leadership to aid the faith-based Black Muslim community in North America's urban areas.”

Attending the White House meeting was Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who briefed the ministers on her recent trip to Africa. In May, Rice hosted about two dozen black ministers in San Francisco for a discussion of ways to increase funding to black faith-based groups doing relief work in Africa http://www.ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=29822

2. Black voters are too smart for this
their ministers will take the money, though. The politics is rather simple--so long as the Republicans get the cracker vote, black vopters know better than to vote for them.

They know they cannot crack the black vote. I think the Republicans only do these things to avoid the uncomfortable fact that they really are the party of white conservative christian men.
