5. Yeay!! I'm so happy that this mission was a success.
NASA needed this one very badly. Thank goodness these people made it home alive to see their families again.

33. She did fly the Shuttle!
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 08:09 AM by zoids
"Discovery's wings leveling as it approaches the landing site. Now that the orbiter has gone subsonic, Commander Eileen Collins has assumed control. She'll fly Discovery on a 194-degree right overhead turn to align with runway 22."

I thought she hadn't!

10. If the landing is difficult (why they say they didn't risk Florida)
then why don't the wait until daylight before doing it? It still looked quite dark on the TV pictures I just saw.

15. They had only 2 chances at re-entry and the times were in darkness
or they would have had to wait another day..

It's a small window of opportunity.

20. Whew!
You know, there were moments when I thought, "They're delaying this landing because they know it's gonna blow up." I'm so glad it hasn't.

Yay,

22. Goddam terrorist explosion woke me out of a sound sleep at 5:10 AM
and set off a bunch of car alarms. I turned on the radio to find out who had been nuked and all they could talk about was the goddam shuttle, nothing about any explosion anywhere.

Oh. Nevermind.

(I guess the first of the two sonic booms happened before my brain woke up, lol)

24. Conspiracy theory: Man, they sure can make those 12" models look real!
C'mon, you don't think they actually went into space, doya? That was a little 12" Star Trek model they filmed. You don't think they really went to the moon, doya???

30. Conspiracy Theroy:The shuttle launch is a cover for creating a tsunami
The shuttle dropped 50000 iranian nukes (that are set to explode when rove is indicted) into the ocean as it was landing.

Tom Flocco told me this so it must be true.

32. Applause!
Well done, and welcome back. I followed the events live in 2003 (who didn't), and that was a devastating moment.

Good stuff, and with a female pilot too :toast:
