Hillary Clinton Getting Fund Raiser Money From Videogame Industry ?! |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 02:11 PM by InfoMinister
Check out this article. After putting down the videogame industry she is now accepting money from them. http://www.livejournal.com/users/gamepolitics/63661.htmlUgh, I hope there are some actual viable Democratic candidates for '08 because Hillary is too inconsistent even with her own views whether I agreed with those views or not.

1. Unfortunately, you hit on something here. |
|
My son is very interested in the video-game industry and he may only have a peripheral idea of politics, but his group assailed Hillary for her latest campaign against the industry. From a young techi's point of view, it's near impossible for the average person to get into the hidden pages of programming. So it's much ado about nothing, in his opinion.

Since they're going to give her all of that money. This is exactly what other companies are doing. Even those companies that are actually doing harm to other people (environmental pollution, etc.).
Even Hollywood gives politicians about 48 million dollars a year in campaign contributions. You don't see very many politicians going after Hollywood very often do you?

5. Why have hidden pages? |
|
Indeed clean-up when I coded removed comments and crap that was commented out and sure as hell never left in active code that just needed a patch to go live - at least not by accident,

compromise to get it passed without insurance company objection mode.

NOT single payer.
More like giveaway to the Insurance interests. After all, she lives in the "real world".
Yeah, she's a real bonus for us. I can see the Corp media gunning for her--because either way they win, but, more likely they are setting her up as an albatross around our neck--just like Kerry was---BECAUSE they are so beholden to power brokers and insiders they are paralyzed.
Yeah, Clinton, like Kerry can really address the concerns of the Nation when it comes to the Iraq disaster, can't she? Yeah, she can really grab the bull by the horns on that one.
Face it, she is a compromised candidate with enormous liabilities when it comes to facing the real world.

(of which I was a part) tracked her influence and pushed Bill to ignore Hillary and concentrate on the "doable" - all the while we were filming "Louise" and her "questions" for the PR fight.
I was on the life, tax, and international side at the time, but the health reports were weekly and very informative.

favoritism to industries just because they gave her money...
Isn't that why we hate the special interests? Because then the candidate "owes" a favor?

I can't recall the videogame industry actually doing this for any other candidate. It looks to me like this is a reaction from the videogame industry to get her to shut up about it.

14. well, I'm willing to wait and see what comes of it |
|
her going after them was pretty much censorship. I agree that parents should be responsible enough not to buy games that are meant for older teens and adults, but then again the gaming industry should be aware of what is going on with their games. As I understand it, it was an internet patch for the nudies, so I'm not sure who should be held responsible for that - probabley the site offering the enhancement, not the game or the parent...
I'll wait and see where this goes before passing judgement, after all, we Dems DO NEED large contributors as well as the grassroots. I'd rather it be all grassroots, but that is just not realistic.

18. Someone At Rockstar Made The Content |
|
The patch only unlocked it. I'm assuming they made it but were told to take it out and the programmer just did a lazy job of removing it. From what I understand this PatrickW guy who created the edited script only had to change one thing. I'm guessing that one thing is probably something that makes what's there into programming notes. I know in C and VB you can do that. If you have something you haven't completed you just put some stuff there to change it to a note about your program so it isn't used to run the program.
Problem is when people found out about it Rockstar didn't tell the truth and said it was reverse engineering. They should have come clean. However, the actual content isn't even that bad when you consider what Hollywood can put into an R-rated movie. I think that even though it's there it's so stupid and unrealistic that it should have retained its M rating.
Anyway, this is my problem with Hillary Clinton. I don't feel you can say that videogames are as bad as drugs and tobacco because of some silly sex game and then take money from the people you're condemning. She's basically alienated the videogame crowd who doesn't want the government butting into our private lives to tell us what we can and cannot buy (I can't buy San Andreas anymore because of the pressure the government has put on the company with the FTC investigations and all of this garbage. No store will carry it in my area so they've basically restricted my access to something I should be able to purchase since I'm over 21 anyway). However, now she's looking hypocritical by accepting their money. Are those moral values voters who think that videogames are the devil going to vote for her now? I just don't think Hillary Clinton can win in '08 if she's going to do stuff like this.

12. She never "put down the video game industry" |
|
She simply expressed concern over the rampant sex and violence in some games, such as Grant Theft Auto.
Get your facts straight.

After squalling about the degeneracy of Hollywood, he'd never propose legislation with any bite to it. Then he'd mop up at fundraisers. It was Joe who handled point for Al in the movie industry in 2000.

I don't agree with what she did, but I think I can understand it. It was a quick, cheap purely political ploy to appeal to the fudie base and it may have worked. Look for more along these lines the closer we get to 2008. This was the opening salvo for her run That being said, I am going to reserve judgement. Maybe she is pulling a fast one and is under the impression that she needs to compromise this much in order to get elected. I think 2007 will be telling; she will have to push hard then. Think she was testing the waters to see where the polls would take her. I don't think anyone will remember this in 2 years.

20. Figures they're from Electronic Arts, the most evil company in gaming |
|
I know EA ranks high on the BuyBlue.com metric and now I know how they get those numbers, it's how much money they give to Democrats. Nevermind what the company actually does, it's all about the cash. EA is so draconian that their own employee's have to sue them to get a day off. At least the games they put out are so derivative that I don't have to buy any of their shit.

EA's business practices are appalling. The only EA-published games I play are the various Sims games, and I actually buy them used so I don't have to give those bastards money.
