Jesus didn't "Support the Troops" of his day..... |
|
In fact, I think they flat carried out his execution. Just thought I'd let you know.
Discuss.

1. Did you just hear a conversation about this on Randi Rhodes? |
|
Someone called in to say he couldn't support the troops and they had a long conversation about it.

10. The young man who called was active in trying to convince... |
|
....young people not to join the military. His father had been career military. Randi kept asking him to explain himself. He'd get a few sentences out and she'd cut in and do most of the talking. It upset her very much. She tried to explain to him how the military breaks a person down so that soldiers aren't military at all. All soldiers want to do is keep themselves and their buddies alive.

12. In my estimation, Rhodes is the Limbaugh of the left |
|
She seriously needs to learn some etiquette--allowing callers to finish their sentences would be a start.

2. He did support the humans, he did not support their violence. |
|
He supported the warriors and not their wars. He loved each soldier as he loved himself and as deeply as his Father loved them. Love the enemy not the deed was his message.
Go back and check out the New Testament, it contains his message of love and not violence and that love included those that offended him.

7. He supported the tax collectors, which in his days were the most |
|
vile members of society, they were seen as the thugs that did what they could do and had to do to get the taxes out of citizens. He ate with a tax collector when all the apostles told him not to, they were afraid he was showing his support for the Romans by eating with one of their tax collectors. He knew the tax collector was doing his job, was doing his duty and what he had to do to survive.
The troops are not to blame for the war, they are victims of a lying administration and they deserve our love and support. So yes, if Jesus were on the earth today, he would go to the troops and he would eat his meals with them and he would love them and support them.
IMHO

That is the dictate he gave to the prostitute, no?

5. If Jesus returned, he'd piss off conservatives and liberals alike |
|
The Prince of Peace just doesn't strike me as the kinda guy who'd buy into the whole "military-industrial complex/national security state" thing.

9. weekend with born again KKKristian in laws: |
|
sort of related, but here goes:
i asked how a christian can suppport war in any context considering that old chestnut, thou shalt not kill.
turns out i am misinformed, should be
thou shalt not murder
creating a massive dis-stinktion between killing and murder
killer and murderer:
turns out to my surprise that ANY soldier fighting a just war
(and these kooks say that a christian must obey its government b/c god installs public officials unless the courts block god's wishes, then it's off to hell for them lawyers and judges)
...any soldier under the auspices of a just war cannot by definition "murder" because Christ is in on the deal, so one can end a life if Christ is his master, and never be guilty of murder
this is meant to include clinic bombers, by the way, since there are 2 wars, one in the middle east and the culture war here
and killing is not a crime, using their definition, only murder is a crime worthy of the courts' interventions
killing is not a crime. abortion is murder.
that is the logic behind the KKKristian support for **'s wars, at least on one rotting limb of my family tree,
which i have pruned from my life--who needs more toxicity in 2005?--so they were officially uninvited from my home
forthwith!!
chew on that a while and then take a good stiff drink

11. That's actually a Jewish interpretation.... |
|
they have a distinction between murder and killing. Weird huh?
You shoot someone because they are a financial threat to you personally. Its murder. You shoot someone, sanctioned by your country, because they are a financial threat to your country. Its killing, and you are ok.

17. not weird, but for ones claiming to be christian, it sure is |
|
outdated. my pal, who chose catholicism over her jewish birth and then went back again, told me that this is a profound subversion of christian doctrine, as it disregards the revisionist intent of the new testament.
your reply has validated her already logical response.
thank you

13. Cool.. then God installed Clinton, too. |
|
I feel for you having to listen to that tripe. I have decided that most people justify their selfish beliefs by making it up as they went along. If the republicans did not offer promises of lower taxes, and more money for the individual and less for society, the self-righteous Christians would find another party. It's not the bible, it's the money.. it's greed, beyond any other excuse they give you. I promise you that.

15. they say clinton's sin trumps anything bush could ever pull off |
|
b/c bush
and they agreed that he was alcoholic (but now, like them, he drinks only beer and wine, which are in their bible) and probably used coke, and might have not been a virgin when he married, and made some real shady business deals, and has 2 trampy daughters, and a real bitter frozen wife, and verrrrrrrrry close friendships with other men who meet often in secluded locations, in fellowship without their wives
but he was saved and so he is the kkkind of kkkristian that god wants, redeemed!
and my wife, sitting next to me, wondering why i opened a can of vipers, said to her brother:
O! i get it now. bush is just like you.

19. Ask them to try this on for size. |

How moral is it to protect oneself by starting a war in a country that did not attack us in order to draw terrorists into said country to spare ourselves?
I'm sure you can word it better, but the sheer hypocrisy today of some woman on the radio saying that she was grateful that we had gone to war in Iraq to keep ourselves safe here and by the way she prays for our troops every day...
I just couldn't help but think of all the innocent people we've killed over there to "protect" ourselves here. I wondered if she knew that Iraq had a good sized christian community before we attacked. Probably not.
