Is the showdown in Crawford a battle for free speech and 1st Amendment?
If they can squash Cindy Sheehan and those that are exercising their Constitutional right to free speech and their right to peaceably assemble, then it is a defeat for the 1st Amendment and for America. Those that gather in Crawford need to look at their random gathering in a larger historical perspective. There is something even bigger than president Bush or Cindy Sheehan at stake. It is the rights of all Americans to be respected as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. Tis is a much bigger battle than most can visualize at this time.

just because he has made it impossible for the American people to approach him in their own capitol, he has to accept the fact that they will try to reach him where they can. He just can't escape except by resigning IMHO.

3. I agree completely.
This is about EVERYTHING this country is(was) supposed to stand for.

Are we CITIZENS, with RIGHTS, governed by Public SERVANTS?

Or are we SUBJECTS, whose opinions can be ignored
by a ruling ARISTOCRACY?

It might be something as SMALL as this
which finally answers that question.

Or, rather, makes the SHEEPLE begin to ASK it.

6. Exactly right. If Bush succeeds in having Cindy and her companions...
adjudged "a threat to the president" and imprisoned accordingly -- essentially the modern-day equivalent of a sedition charge -- the entire Bill of Rights is in jeopardy, just as I have said in my few other posts on the topic. (Indeed I believe engineering such a constitutional confrontation is precisely the president's intent: hence too his appointment of Roberts to the Supreme Court. I also believe the corporate media's foreknowledge of what is at stake is exactly why the story is being downplayed or suppressed.)

7. He made a big mistake thinking he could hide out on vacation
He is dissing the wrong person! He made this personal for Cindy Sheehan . And therefore he made it personal for all of us who oppose his illegal immoral war, and his effort to squash our right to free speech. He bit off more then he can chew.
