State Senator tries to protect integrity after insulting disabled
My headline ....here's story.......

A state senator took a lie detector test to try to defend his integrity after a confrontation with an aide for developmentally disabled adults who the senator says were disrupting a movie.

<snip>

According to the Nodlers, they left the theater after 10-15 minutes because the disabled patrons were making too much noise for them to focus on the movie.

As they were leaving, "my brother said to me, 'You can't enjoy the movie with all that noise going on,'" Charlie Nodler said Tuesday. "This lady took exception to that and said, `You need to have more compassion for these people.'"

<snip>

The broader issue, Nodler said, is "whether disabled persons who are brought into public settings should be excused from adherence to rules."

"Apparently there are significant numbers of advocates who say `yes' - that rights of the disabled supersede proper conduct and behavior," Nodler said.

Personal responsibility for behavior varies by a person's abilities, Nodler said, "but I think the caregiver becomes accountable for the choices about where they take these folks and what conditions they put them in."

1. One wonders why a 54-year old (R-politician) and his OLDER brother were
attending "The Fantastic Four" in the first place- since it's made for the pre-teen crowd, anyway.

4. I don't care how old the guy is...would you (at any age) say this?
"but I think the caregiver becomes accountable for the choices about where they take these folks and what conditions they put them in."

Let's make sure the disabled don't go out in public where they can become a nuisance!!!

I was told the other day that my son (who uses a wheel chair) needed to learn how to pop wheelies in order to get up steps to businesses - so he could be more independent (Uh, why the hell don't the businesses get rid of the steps so all people can have access? - ever heard of the ADA?)
