General Kevin Byrnes: Fired for arguing with the Rumsfeld neo-con clique
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 04:54 PM by Joanne98
August 10, 2005 -- Sudden resignation of TRADOC Commander, Gen. There's much more to this story than a "sexual indiscretion." The sudden firing of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine (TRADOC) Commander, four star General and New York City native Kevin P. Byrnes, one of only 11 four star generals in the Army, has much more to do with a policy dispute than an anonymous Pentagon-reported story about an alleged "extra-marital affair." Although Byrnes has recently been involved in divorce proceedings, Pentagon insiders report that Byrnes was fired for insubordination. Byrnes' firing fits a pattern of neocon demonizing of policy opponents by tossing out unsubstantiated charges from "anonymous source." For example, when Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski was demoted to Colonel over trumped up charges over her role as commander of Iraqi prisons during the time of the prisoner abuse (and after she revealed the presence of Israeli interrogators in Iraqi prisons), the Pentagon spin machine, joined at the hips with neo-con think thanks and media outlets in Washington, cited a dated and totally unsubstantiated shoplifting accusation against her. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker, who Donald Rumsfeld hauled out of retirement to head up the Army after Gen. Eric Shinseki was fired and after no other active duty general wanted the job, relieved Byrnes of his command at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Byrnes had previous run-ins with the neo-cons in the Pentagon. In 2002, Byrnes was faced with being retired at Lt. Gen. after he clashed with then-Rumsfeld aide Stephen Cambone over proposed troop strength cuts. Then Army Secretary Thomas White, intervened on behalf of Byrnes and he received his fourth star. White was later fired by the Pentagon neo-cons.

What has not been reported is that recently, one of Byrnes' subordinate commands, Fort Rucker in Alabama, had been told to stand by for an influx of 50,000 military trainees -- a level the base has not seen since the Vietnam War. Byrnes' relief of command came on the heels of the Pentagon announcing that might permit Spanish-language entrance examinations. Byrnes, who was in charge of Army training, would not only face recruits with lower education levels, criminal records, but a lack of proficiency in English. Pentagon insiders report that it was Byrnes' policy disagreements with the Pentagon neo-cons over the new recruitment policies and the potential for calling up Army retirees and reinstating military conscription without adequate TRADOC funding that resulted in his firing. The personal misconduct charges were concocted by the Pentagon to cover up the fact that there are serious disagreements with Bush and Rumsfeld among the flag officer ranks in the military.

Four star General Kevin Byrnes: Fired for arguing with the Rumsfeld neo-con clique in the Pentagon

Byrnes was also associated with a group of officers who spent time at the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania. The Army War College has been a center of opposition to the war in Iraq and it is believed that Byrnes was recognized by the neo-cons as one of the unofficial leaders of a group of Army flag rank opponents of Bush's war in Iraq and potential military action against Iran.

Four Star Army General Fired For Alleged Sexual Misconduct; Some Say He May Have Been Ousted For Attempting To Thwart The Bush Administration Plans To Strike Iran
General Kevin P. Byrnes was relieved of his duties Tuesday, only the third four star officer to be fired in more than 15 years. Observers speculated there are much deeper reasons behind the firing of the high-ranking officer said to be against the administration's escalating war policies.
August 10, 2005

By Greg Szymanski

Sabers are rattling deep within the highest-levels of the U.S. military as for the first time in more than a decade a four star officer was relieved of his duties, Army officials announced Tuesday.

Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes was relieved for personal conduct reasons as the Pentagon Inspector General’s Office has been investigating possible sexual misconduct by Byres for several months.

“The investigation is complete but it is yet to be determined if the general will be only demoted or charged criminally,” said a Pentagon spokesman about relieving Byrnes of his duties as commander of the prestigious Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

To understand the magnitude of the firing and its unusual nature, Byrnes, 55, was only months away from full retirement and though high-ranking officers are commonly relieved of their duties rarely – if ever – is such a drastic measure taken against a four star general.

Although the military and Pentagon officials, including Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, are remaining silent about the details, speculation among some military observers is that the firing of Gen. Byrnes goes much deeper than only personal sexual misconduct.

Sources close to the military who remain anonymous said Byrnes was part of U.S. military faction discontented with the Bush administration war policies in Iraq and the potential for a nuclear disaster in Iran.

In an effort to stop the Bush administration in its tracks, sources say Byrnes was about to lead a coup against the hawks in the military and executive branch determined to lead America into a global conflict, leading to devastating ramifications for the country, as well as financial and social chaos.

20. I always knew about that..
Yeah the "story" being floated around regarding the Chicago Grand Jury is most likely true.

You can for instance, call someone like Collin Powell to ANY Grand Jury proceeding.....If it involves corruption charges, the Jury is in charge.

33. That's irrelevant.
Even if there is two, or three Grand Juries the Grand Jury has the right to control the case.

They can summon people in to investigate corruption, this has always been known. Just like the subpoena for Collin Powell. Randy Sanborn's office did confirm Powell testified (Chicago) but not anything else.

43. Not irrelevant: Powell testified before the Wash DC grand jury
investigating the Plame case. The Plame case is being investigated by the Wash DC grand jury and Fitz is heading up the case in his capacity as the Special Prosecutor appointed by the DOJ. Not in his other job as US attorney for Chicago. Consequently since the Plame case is under the jurisdiction of the DC grand jury, only that grand jury has jurisdiction to issue indictments. The Chicago grand jury has nothing to do with the Plame case investigation since that investigation is being conducted before the Wash DC grand jury.

Reports regarding the alleged Chicago grand jury indictments conveniently ignore that Fitz is investigating the Plame case only in his capacity as the DOJ appointed Special Prosecutor. And the case is only being heard by the Wash DC grand jury. Fitz's other job as US attorney in Chicago and the Chicago grand jury is irrelevant in this matter. The Chicago grand jury doesn't have the case and thus cannot issue indictments pursuant to the DC investigation conducted by Fitzgerald in his role as Special Prosecutor.

to do with the washington grand jury investigating the valerie plame case..period the end..and thats what makes that story sound like a total fake!

powell testified before the washington dc grand jury..not the chicago grand jury..the chicago grand jury can not issue indictments on the valerie plame case..because it has not heard the valerie plame case!! they are two separate cases!! unrelated!

19. Excellent bit of detail in that report.
It's frightening to imagine how it could happen here, but Israel's Ariel Sharon and the board of directors under Will Marshall, Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz are who created PNAC.

The militant factions of Israel now have control over our government, and they will destabilize the middle east, and destroy those who get in the way and shall not relinquish power except by force.

21. SPIN IS IN.
And so is TREASIN!

"All this is occurring against a backdrop of efforts by a group of U.S. Admirals and Generals, called in military jargon flag officers, to invoke provisions of the Uniform Military Code, authorizing them to arrest their Commander-in-Chief Bush for treason, committed against the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights and the American common people.

If Bush has them arrested for mutiny, and if they are not assassinated, they intend to prove at Courts Martial, that Bush is a fictitious President; that he caused by bribery a Five-Judge majority of the U.S. Supreme Court to corruptly and arbitrarily install Bush as the occupant and resident of the Oval Office in 2000 and a further fake presidency by massive election computer fraud in 2004; that George W. Bush as supervised by Daddy Bush, with the full assistance and treachery of their joint mistress Condoleeza Rice, had full prior knowledge of 9-11 and caused the murder of three thousand fellow Americans; that George W. Bush started an unconstitutional war by fraud and deceit amounting to treason, invading Iraq; that George W, Bush caused the death and serious wounding in mind and body of many thousands of American men and women sent to Iraq as an invading force, serving no legitimate American purpose other than aiding and abetting the conspiratorial Oil Cartel including Richard Cheney and the Bush Crime Family.

That flag officers, to support their position, have undisputed documentary proof of the crimes of George W. Bush and Daddy Bush.

Actually, President John F. Kennedy was publicly executed in an open car in Dallas, by the Anglo-American Aristocracy, constituting a coup. That every President after JFK covered up this overthrow of the Presidency."

General Kevin Byrnes belonged to the latter.

They cleaned house at the CIA as much as they could.
Then appointed John the death squads all love me Negroponte

Albert Torture them till they talk Gonzales as Attorney General
Rumsfeld at DOD has some hit squad to use how he see's fit with no oversite.
They control all branches of Gov & all the important levers of power.
The American Corporate media regurgitates their talking point on Q.
The draconian Patriot act has been renewed.
Americans can be held without charge on bush's say so.
The courts have not struck this down.

The foundation has been laid for a police state

but the fly in the ointment is 4 star Generals who say NO!

55. When was the last time the media cared about reliable sources?
No offense...just saying.

If this were something that interested Matt Drudge, he'd have already made a fuss over it. Accuracy be damned.

64. NEVER!
No offense.

they do care about their 401s .. heavily invested in the defense industry

they do care about being worshipped by thier adoring fans

they do care about keeping their dream alive
they do care about their million dollar salaries
extravagent lifestles
corporat image

their hairdoes and their fuhrer

also they so LOVE those SEXCAPADES of the other elites so they can sit in judgement as the early puitans did.

so they do care

and they care so much about their corporat dreams and fuhrer that the boy/king/god will reward them with god status too

so they really do care..

46. Scary & typical, but the SCARIEST part of this story is really
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 06:47 AM by mtnester
"What has not been reported is that recently, one of Byrnes' subordinate commands, Fort Rucker in Alabama, had been told to stand by for an influx of 50,000 military trainees -- a level the base has not seen since the Vietnam War."

WTF?? And just WHERE are 50,000 new recruits coming from?

47. Cafferty last night thoroughly trashed the DOD for this firing.
He went through all the list of reasons why, by even the military's regulation, the sexual misconduct charge did not rise to the standard and commented that perhaps the military's concern with this man's priviate life would best applied to the needs of the soldiers in Iraq who come home injured and dead.

56. massive recruitment of ILLEGAL ALIENS!
Not sure that is accurate at all. Recruiters in Puerto Rico are having no problems recruiting at all nor or they in other US territories. People living in US territories are US citizens even if they don't speak American English.

58. Something's Rotten in the State of the Pentagon!
Having spent my entire career working beside the military from Pfc's through 4-Star Generals, this firing of a General for an affair is absolutely ludicrous.

Gen. Byrne had previously been assigned as Post Commander of the US Army Intelligence Command at Fort Huachua, Arizona. This Command is/was responsible for training intelligence to all branchs of the service but also they have a school to train on gathering intelligence and the art of interrogations.

Gen. Byrne was replaced last year by General Barbara Fast the same General Fast who was responsible for the Command of Abu Gharib when the torture photo's were taken. The same General Fast who was responsible for the troops who during interrogations tortured innocent Iraqi civilians.

Soon after the exposure of the Abu Gharib tortures, General Fast and her COLonel Aide, were returned to Fort Huachua where each of them were rewarded and promoted, Barbara Fast Commander of the Installation/Intelligence and the COL who became Commander of the Intelligence Training School. General Fast was promoted against the wishes of Senator John McCain, himself a Viet Nam POW. Sen. McCain wanted General Fast to be cleared of all responisblity of the Abu Gharib tortures before she was given the Command at Fort Huachuca. Sen McCain's wishes were ignored.

Meanwhile the Reserve female General Karpinski (sp) whose military police troops when deployed to Iraq were placed under the Command of Gen. Fast. The only officer held responsible for and demoted were the Reserve female General Karpinski (sp)??????

Something else is going down with the Military and the BFEE all being chickenhawks who trully have no understanding of Military Officers/Troops with integrity and love of their profession and duty to their Nation are able to control them all.
